About Aguirre Spring Recreation Area and Campground

Federal campground in New Mexico.

Nestled in the rugged beauty of southern New Mexico, Aguirre Spring Recreation Area and Campground offers RV travelers an authentic desert camping experience with stunning natural scenery and excellent access to outdoor adventures. Located in the Organ Mountains, this public campground serves as a perfect basecamp for exploring one of New Mexico's most dramatic landscapes, where towering peaks rise dramatically from the desert floor and create an ever-changing backdrop as the sun moves across the sky.

The area surrounding Aguirre Spring is characterized by diverse terrain that appeals to a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts. Rock climbers from around the world come to test their skills on the legendary climbing routes found throughout the Organ Mountains, while hikers of all ability levels can explore numerous trails that wind through desert vegetation and offer breathtaking vistas. The spring itself provides a reliable water source in an otherwise arid landscape, making this location historically significant and ecologically important to the region.

For those seeking solitude and natural beauty, the campground offers an excellent retreat from crowded tourist destinations. The high desert elevation provides cooler temperatures than lower elevation areas, making spring and fall particularly pleasant times to visit. Sunrise and sunset viewing is spectacular here, with the mountains turning brilliant shades of orange, red, and purple as the light changes throughout the day.

The nearby town of Las Cruces provides essential services, supplies, and dining options for RV travelers who need to restock or take a break from camp cooking. The location also puts visitors within reasonable driving distance of other New Mexico attractions, including White Sands National Park and various historic sites that showcase the region's rich cultural heritage.

Whether you're an adventure seeker looking for challenging hikes and climbing opportunities, a nature photographer chasing the perfect desert landscape, or simply someone wanting to experience the peaceful quiet of the high desert, Aguirre Spring Recreation Area delivers an authentic New Mexico RV camping experience that satisfies both the body and soul.

Absolutely stunning. Be mindful of the gate hours- no late arrivals! Vault toilets pretty clean and well stocked with TP and hand sanitizer. Hard to tell where tent pad is- either small/sloped or straight up in a creek wash (though both options have some tree shade). Probably best for vehicle camping unless you’re sure of a dry forecast!

Awesome campground with amazing views of the Organ Mountains. Great hiking too! There are two camping loops, each with a tap-to-pay kiosk that works with tap credit cards or phone payment - so cool! Trash cans at all the sites. Dry camping - no hookups. Potable water available at the entrance sign near the camp host - it’s a blue spigot set back from the road at the yellow poles. No dump station.

Large RVs, ADVENTURE awaits!! Twisting and turning up miles of 3/4-1.5 wide nicely paved road will make you a better driver for sure. Grab sight 1-the best or 2 on the way IN as you don’t get a second chance. They are only a handful of navigable sites. Doable but not large RV friendly. Views and quiet, priceless!!

Nice campground with pit toilets. Many different sites ( I think about 50) for different types of activities and vehicles. No hookups. Trash cans on site. Good T-Mobile cell service. Excellent for kids and pets. Close to Las Cruces. Easy access even for larger rigs. Can get busy on the weekends and holidays. Probably too hot during the summer but from September till March it's perfect. Good hiking... Nice campground with pit toilets. This place is nature incarnate. Back side of the Organ Mountains. When you first turn down the road, you don't realize the beautiful drive you're embarking on. Extremely nice facilities.
