About Nambe Lake-Falls Recreation Area

Campground in New Mexico.

Nestled in the scenic foothills of northern New Mexico, Nambe Lake-Falls Recreation Area offers RV campers an exceptional escape into nature with stunning mountain views and pristine wilderness surroundings. This public campground provides an ideal base for exploring the beauty of the Santa Fe National Forest region, where pine-covered slopes meet crystal-clear waters and the air carries the crisp freshness of high elevation camping.

The recreation area centers around Nambe Lake, a jewel set against a backdrop of towering ponderosa pines and aspens. The adjacent waterfalls add another layer of natural beauty to the landscape, with hiking trails leading to scenic overlooks and secluded spots perfect for picnicking or photography. Unfortunately I won't be stopping by . After reading the reviews, and looking at all those lovely photos $20 was a bit much. A senior rate for singles, is not inappropriate. Mother Nature appears to be maintaining the site very well. If the staff continues to be cranky, donations according to would be fair.

Great views, friendly staff, and refreshing creek walks make it a must-visit. Nambe Falls Recreation Area is a hidden gem just outside Santa Fe, owned and managed by the local tribe and open to the public for a $20 CASH ONLY entrance fee. I hiked both waterfall trails, the overlook trail is moderately steep but offers breathtaking views of the two-tier falls, with rest spots along the way. The bottom falls trail winds through the creek, which was the perfect way to cool off on a hot July day. Everyone I met was kind, and the young woman at the entrance was especially pleasant. Highly recommend this beautiful and respectful natural experience.

Great hikes! One hike overlooks the waterfalls and is maybe .25 mile, the other trail is about .5 mile and most of it is walking through the river- so bring water shoes!

Awesome experience! The water to the waterfall was pretty cold, but surely worth the trip. It's a pretty steep climb uphill once you saw the lower falls, but the view is amazing! The entrance fee is pretty high and I hope they'll use the money to improve the path to the waterfall.

A pleasant escape on a hot day. The trek up river to the falls can be challenging. The river was high May 2023. Launch fee for your boat/kayak is $15 and YOU MUST HAVE LIFE VESTS.

Had a great time. Camping was fun. Went fishing the next day, didn't catch anything though. But over all was very nice.
