About Pine Springs Campground

Campground in New Mexico.

Pine Springs Campground offers RV travelers a gateway to one of New Mexico's most remarkable natural landscapes. Located in Salt Flat, this public campground serves as an ideal base for exploring the stunning Guadalupe Mountains and the vast desert vistas that define this corner of the American Southwest.

The setting itself is breathtaking. Salt Flat sits at the edge of vast salt flats and desert terrain that stretches across the New Mexico-Texas border region. The area is known for its dramatic geology, wide-open skies, and the kind of solitude that desert lovers crave. Sunsets here are extraordinary, with colors that seem to paint the entire sky in shades of orange, pink, and purple. The clear night skies make this an exceptional destination for stargazing, with minimal light pollution allowing visitors to see the Milky Way in stunning detail.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the proximity to Guadalupe Mountains National Park is a major draw. The park offers excellent hiking opportunities with trails ranging from easy walks to challenging summit hikes. Popular trails like the Guadalupe Peak Trail reward hikers with panoramic views that extend across multiple states on clear days. Beyond hiking, visitors enjoy opportunities for photography, rock climbing, and simply exploring the unique geological formations that make this region distinct.

The Salt Flat area also appeals to those interested in geology and natural history. The salt lakes and mineral deposits tell a fascinating story of ancient seas and geological processes that shaped the landscape over millions of years. Birdwatchers appreciate the variety of desert species that inhabit the region, particularly during migration seasons.

This location is perfect for RV travelers seeking authentic desert camping away from crowded tourist areas. Whether you're planning an extended stay to thoroughly explore the Guadalupe Mountains or using Pine Springs as a stopping point on a larger Southwest road trip, you'll find a welcoming setting in the heart of compelling natural scenery. The nearby town of Salt Flat provides basic services, while the campground itself offers a peaceful camping experience surrounded by some of New Mexico's most dramatic landscapes.

Perfect place to lay your head while you hike!! It's a parking lot,.. not a campground, but if you are there for hiking Guadalupe Mountains, then you can't get much better location. No service, no shower, yes they have toilet and water for jugs and back packs. Make sure if staying multiple days, you have all you need. No amenities close by. We did absolutely love the three days we stayed here. Not for the campsite, but for the hiking. It's epic!!! The Devil's Hall is harder than you would think, with miles of rock scrambling. The Guadalupe Peak Trail is one of the very best trails I've even done. Incredibly views the entire time. @new.roads.new.adventures

The person on the phone could not answer why there is a tag that says this place is reserved; even though I had booked it online earlier. I set up camp and cooked dinner. After the storm, the rainbow over the Guadalupe Mountains was massive, one of the most incredible I’ve ever seen. I crawled into my tent early. That night, in the quiet of the mountains, I finally got the rest I’d been needing. Overall lovely experience.

This is not a campground. It’s a trailhead tight parking lot they charge you to sleep in. It’s a trailhead tight parking lot they charge you to sleep in. (The tent area looked nice but for walk in tents only.) 2 toilets that you share with the busy hiking trails so they are gross and were not cleaned the 3 nights while we were here. (One was out of order) Someone went and closed the bathroom like they were cleaning it, but there was still a black ring on the toilet and no toilet paper in the thing. Just stacked up on top of it. No power outlets in the bathroom. No showers, no dump station, no water fill. There is a water bottle fill up but even my husband with no sense of smell said the water smells like bathroom. I called ahead of time to make sure they had a dish dishwashing station. They said yes, I arrived that same day to find it out of order. Check ioverlander and stay at the free pull offs! I usually don’t leave bad reviews. I just don’t return to a place but this was so disappointing I had to share. Alsooooo the site we booked had a low tree and we absolutely couldn’t fit with our 10’ 5” tall tiny truck camper. The guy next to us had a tiny truck camper and he also couldn’t fit in his spot because of the tree so he was over the line in the other spot. So I don’t know how any rv/high van would fit in that/those spots. People come in and out at all times to use the trailhead so headlights are constantly being shined in your camper because you’re literally sleeping in a parking lot. 2 feet away from the next camper. Beautiful views from the parking lot and easy access to the trails. Definitely not a multiple night destination unless you’re tent camping. No shade but we were here in the winter so sun was nice

The RV campground is just a parking lot. No services. Knew that - booked it for the location. But it was surprisingly pleasant. The views were great. Great access to trails. Watching the hikers go up the peak before sun-up was fun. It was crazy busy mid-day on Saturday. Tail parking was full by maybe 7:30 am? Visitor center parking filled too. Enjoyed our stay.

This campground is very pretty but the winds are super high and the tent pads are super small. We had a larger REI tent that was destroyed due to high winds when we were here.
