About Las Vegas New Mexico KOA Journey

KOA Campground

Nestled in the high desert landscape of northeastern New Mexico, Las Vegas New Mexico KOA Journey offers a welcoming base for travelers exploring this historic and scenic corner of the state. The park sits near the charming town of Las Vegas, a community rich with Old West heritage and Victorian architecture that transports visitors back to a bygone era. This location places you perfectly for discovering the unique character of the region while enjoying comfortable RV accommodations.

The area surrounding the park features stunning natural beauty typical of New Mexico's high desert terrain. The landscape showcases dramatic mesas, wide open skies, and the kind of peaceful quiet that draws many RV enthusiasts away from more crowded destinations. The elevation and geography create comfortable temperatures for much of the year, making spring and fall particularly pleasant times to visit. The clear night skies are exceptional, offering stargazing opportunities that rival dark sky destinations across the country.

Las Vegas itself serves as a gateway to remarkable historical attractions and outdoor activities. The town's downtown district preserves numerous buildings from the 1880s and early 1900s, and history enthusiasts will appreciate the architectural details and stories embedded in the community. For those interested in exploring further afield, the park's location provides access to beautiful hiking and scenic driving opportunities throughout the region. The surrounding national forests and public lands offer countless outdoor recreation possibilities for visitors seeking adventure.

This destination appeals particularly to travelers interested in authentic Southwestern experiences, history buffs, nature lovers, and anyone seeking a quieter alternative to the glitz of nearby Las Vegas, Nevada. Retirees often appreciate the peaceful setting and walkable historic town, while families enjoy the wide open spaces and outdoor activities. The park serves as an excellent stopping point for cross-country travelers, offering a comfortable place to rest and explore a genuinely interesting pocket of New Mexico that rewards curiosity and exploration.

We've stayed here a couple of times. It's a very convenient location off of the 25 when traveling through. It's a little noisy next to the interstate, but the campground is clean. They have a little dog run for the pups, which is great. The bathrooms were very clean and nice. They also serve breakfast at a pretty reasonable price, if you make reservations. Also they've put in a small swimming pool... We've stayed here a couple of times. It's a very convenient location off of the 25 when traveling through. The hosts at the campground were very nice and helpful when needed. Nice clean campground. Doing lots to keep improving it. Hikes all around campground. I kept filling my fresh water take because my water pump has better pressure. The owner said he is going to fix the pressure. There is disc golf, playground for kids and in summer a pool. The laundry room has 4 washers and 3 dryers. I wou... The hosts at the campground were very nice and helpful when needed. Nice clean campground. Doing lots to keep improving it. We stopped at this KOA for one night. GPS took us in no problem. First note though, the road leading to the KOA is terribly rough. We drove very slowly and it still was jarring. Our site was clean and level. We travel with a 21 foot pickup and 35 foot fifth wheel. We had no problems negotiating ourselves into our site. The 50-amp power at the pole was “clean”. We did not use any other connections at the site. This campground was very quiet. Of note at this KOA is they offer for a fee, a hot breakfast in the morning. I think it was $7.99 a person but I don’t remember for sure. We did not partake as they don’t start serving until I think it was 7 or 8AM, but this is a nice touch for a KOA Journey! My only complaint and the only reason I did not give this KOA 5 stars is the signage for departure. We departed in the dark. There are signs for “Big Rig Exit” but they are very difficult to read in the dark with just headlights on. We got confused and basically got lost in the campground. In the dark. It took us awhile to figure it out but new exit signage would have made this KOA an outstanding place to stop for the night!

Very nice campground. I was afraid it was going to be too close to the highway and then be noisy but it was very quiet. They had a great breakfast in the morning for only $8, highly recommend.

This is a nice property. Lots of amenities and the location is beautiful . The staff is fantastic. The breakfast is wonderful. I usually stay in a cabin. I have been to this location twice. Its really unfortunate that the owner/manager has noisy dogs . Both times I've been here, the dogs are outside and bark non-stop while the owner is gone.
