About Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary Campground

Campground in New York.

Nestled in the scenic Finger Lakes region of New York, Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary Campground offers RV travelers a unique blend of natural beauty and wildlife viewing opportunities. This public campground serves as a gateway to one of North America's most important bird migration corridors, making it an ideal destination for birdwatchers, nature photographers, and families seeking authentic outdoor experiences away from crowded commercial parks.

The sanctuary's location along the migration route means you'll have exceptional opportunities to observe a diverse array of bird species throughout the seasons. Spring and fall migrations bring waves of warblers, waterfowl, and raptors, while summer visitors can enjoy the calls and sightings of nesting birds. Whether you're an experienced birder with your binoculars ready or simply someone who appreciates the magic of encountering wildlife in its natural habitat, this campground provides the perfect base for exploration.

The sanctuary itself maintains trails and observation areas designed to help visitors experience the natural environment responsibly. Early morning and evening hours are particularly rewarding for wildlife watching, and many guests find that the peaceful rhythm of the sanctuary's natural cycles becomes a highlight of their camping stay.

Beyond the immediate sanctuary grounds, the broader region offers substantial appeal for RV travelers. The Finger Lakes area is renowned for its wineries, farm-to-table restaurants, and charming small towns. Scenic drives showcase the region's agricultural heritage and beautiful lakeside vistas. State parks and hiking trails provide additional recreation options for those wanting to explore further. The region's cultural attractions, including galleries, museums, and historic sites, add depth to any visit.

This campground attracts thoughtful travelers who value wildlife conservation, outdoor education, and peaceful natural settings. It's particularly suited for those seeking quieter experiences, families wanting to teach children about nature, retired travelers with time to fully appreciate the sanctuary, and anyone looking to disconnect from routine and reconnect with the natural world. Large campsites. Very quiet but nothing to do. Unable to swim due to high bacteria levels in river. There was a dead seagull on the beach which should have been picked up. Garbage at dump station not picked up for 2 days & was overflowing. We left today (Mon morning) & last time Bathrooms were cleaned was Sat at 320. I had to go to the office & remind them

Great place, large lots. Do not go there to lay on the beach as it's covered in "migrating bird" /canada geese poop ! Water was however clear when we were there and not full of feathers like some other beaches in that area.

Fabulous trails... we like the bird trail... bring seeds and if you stay still long enough the birds will eat from your hand.

Nature lovers prime location for camping. Recommend booking long in advance. The restrooms and showers are not new but fairly well maintained. Boardwalk over a marsh near the registration office has plenty of birds and wildlife.

Trees are old, tall and shady. Campsite, large and grassy with a pleasant breeze off of the river. An occasional cargo ship slips by chugging upstream or drifting down. Quiet peaceful place to hang in a hammock swing.
