We stayed for a week during the winter at Bear Den Campgrounds, and it was hands down an incredible experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff were phenomenal—so welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind. They truly make sure you’re taken care of, and it never once felt like just a business transaction. Our campsite had everything we needed and included a breathtaking view of the lake with a waterfall. The hiking trails were perfect for the kids, and there are multiple playgrounds spread throughout the property, which made it so easy for them to burn off energy. The jump pillow was an absolute favorite—our kids couldn’t get enough of it! The dog park was the perfect size, and the campsites are extremely pet-friendly and accommodating. There is so much for families to do right on the property: fishing, hiking, an arcade for the kids, and a camp shop that quickly became a highlight. Our kids were so excited to show Ms. Vicky all the cool rocks they found, and she took the time to teach them about each one—such a special and memorable moment. I have ZERO complaints. There were absolutely NO cons. This place is truly a hidden gem, and we will definitely be back.

They have fishing on site and a few different hiking trails - two of them lead to a waterfalls. One of them is a long hike to the big waterfall and fairly challenging so keep that in mind if you have little ones. If you have little ones, I’d recommend the shorter hike to the smaller waterfall or if you are a beginner hiker. You can play in the creek there as well. The campground is conveniently located right off the Blue Ridge Parkway so you can enjoy the beautiful drive. There’s also an apple orchard nearby, and it’s not too far from Linville Caverns. Highly recommend if you are looking for a family friendly campground during leaf peeping season! Mid-late October was the best for that!

We can’t wait to come back. My friend & I had a girls weekend at SSBD & it was a dream. We walked around the pond & enjoyed the waterfall, played in the arcade, & enjoyed our beautiful view all weekend. Check-in & check-out was so so easy & Kristie in the office was amazing. She helped us plan our route home & knew exactly how to navigate the Blue Ridge Parkway closures. We didn’t have a single is... We can’t wait to come back. From the beginning when Kurt made the reservations with Kris Ann we were treated like family. He told her we liked to be off by ourselves and she personally got on her golf cart and checked out a good spot for us, Site B22. It was beautiful and quiet and we were very comfortable there. Moses is quite the character and just a good soul and Britany was as friendly as can be and they both have led very interesting lives. After all they have been through last year with Hurricane Helen and the floods you would never know their heartache by their joyful and helpful attitudes. I found out Kris Ann and I have a lot in common including our love of postcards! (Be on the lookout for some). Even though I didn’t want to/did want to see a bear we never did see one. We would highly recommend Spacious Skies Bear Den in Spruce Pine, North Carolina for the beauty, peacefulness and the great people who run it! Kurt and Leann Langbehn Crown Point, Indiana

Great camp ground!! We came for the fall colors but realized it was going to be a bit too cold for tent camping with a 1 year old. I was able to call their very friendly staff and upgrade to a brand new cabin that was perfect for the chilly nights. Will definitely return!
