The French Broad River itself is a major draw for outdoor enthusiasts. As one of the oldest rivers in North America, it winds through stunning mountain terrain and offers excellent opportunities for fishing, paddling, and riverside exploration. Anglers particularly appreciate the river's healthy populations of smallmouth bass and other native species, while canoeists and kayakers find miles of gentle to moderate paddling with breathtaking valley views. The river corridor also provides numerous hiking trails that trace its banks, offering accessible options for families as well as more challenging routes for serious trekkers.

Asheville, the cultural heart of the western mountains, sits nearby with its vibrant downtown full of galleries, breweries, restaurants, and live music venues. The Blue Ridge Parkway, America's most visited national scenic byway, winds through the region, offering countless pullouts, short walks, and overlooks that showcase mountain vistas. Biltmore Estate, the massive Victorian mansion and surrounding grounds, attracts visitors from around the world and provides a full day of exploration.

For those seeking natural attractions, numerous state parks and natural areas punctuate the landscape. Hiking opportunities range from easy riverside strolls to challenging mountain peaks with panoramic views. Waterfalls dot the region, and discovering the next cascading gem is a favorite pastime for many visitors.

I’ve grown up on this river and it will always be a place I’ve called home. So much beautiful flora and fauna surrounding it. Definitely worth pulling a chair up and watching or even dipping your toes in for a float.
