About Keech's Kampground

Campground in North Carolina.

Keech's Kampground offers a welcoming retreat in the heart of eastern North Carolina, where visitors discover the perfect blend of small-town charm and outdoor recreation. Located in Chocowinity, this public campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the Tar Heel State's coastal plains region and the natural beauty that defines this part of North Carolina.

The area surrounding Keech's Kampground is rich with history and natural attractions that appeal to a wide variety of travelers. Chocowinity itself sits along the Pamlico River, a significant waterway that has shaped the region's heritage for centuries. The slower pace of life here contrasts beautifully with the hustle of major metropolitan areas, making it ideal for those seeking genuine relaxation and connection with nature. Visitors will find themselves in a region known for its waterways, wildlife, and authentic Southern hospitality.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the location provides excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, and water-based activities. The Pamlico River and surrounding waterways are popular spots for anglers and anyone interested in exploring North Carolina's aquatic ecosystems. Bird watchers and nature photographers will appreciate the diverse wildlife that inhabits the coastal plain environment. The relatively undeveloped landscape means you'll experience darker skies at night, perfect for stargazing and enjoying the natural world.

Nearby, visitors can explore charming small towns and local attractions that showcase the region's character. The area is close enough to the coast to make day trips feasible, yet far enough inland to offer a different perspective on coastal Carolina. Local restaurants and shops reflect the area's agricultural heritage and maritime traditions.

Keech's Kampground appeals to families seeking a peaceful camping experience, couples looking for a quiet getaway, and anyone wanting to explore eastern North Carolina without the crowds of more touristy destinations. I haven’t been here long. But it’s a really nice place to do permanent camping. Everyone seems to be super friendly that I have meet so far. They have a playground, ponds to go fishing, 3 friendly ducks that love to be feed lol. I honestly can’t say nothing bad about this place. Except maybe add a pool 😂. Other than that I already love it here.

Camped there for three years 4 days a week for remote work. Could not have found a better place. People are quiet and friendly (no riff-raff) and the proprietor keeps the place in top notch condition. Miles better than any nearby campground. I highly recommend!

It is an experience and I hope I have not been a pest to anyone asking so many questions. I find everyone friendly and pleasant. I have wonderful neighbors. The campground is clean, neat and well kept. This is family run and you can tell by how much care and attention they give not only to the property but to all the campers. I don't believe I have met such a dedicated family working to make everyone's stay so positive. They have been so helpful to me and I have learned and am still learning a lot. The restrooms and shower facilities are clean and neat. They only ask that you clean up behind yourself for the next person. I find that very fair. They are pet friendly and the animals seem to enjoy the area to run in so much. There is a playground for the children and a large area for them to run and play. It's nice to see them riding their bikes and having a good time. If you decide to come and move in permanently or stay a short time, you will certainly enjoy it. The campground is located about 15 minutes from Washington, NC with it's fine restaurants and waterfront views and so much I don't have enough room to tell you. You'll enjoy the cooler nights now, perhaps by the fire watching the stars (oops, maybe a shooting star). There are two small ponds on the property and I understand from my neighbor Jimmy who has caught quite a few - - they are very good sized fish. He works quite a bit, but if you catch him, he may be able to give you more details. All in all, it's a wonderful place to stay. Take a chance. I did and have never looked back. It's home.
