The top of the mountain is not forested, so the 360º view on a clear day is spectacular. My slightly fuzzy panoramic shot has Mount Mitchell in it (though hard to see), the highest peak east of the Mississippi. On the opposite side of Pond Mountain is Mount Roger's, the highest point in Virginia.

Nice out and back trail. Saw a coyote at the bottom of the road near the Christmas tree farms. On top we spotted a Snowy Bunting - from what someone told us it was first spotted in the county.

When we got to the trailhead, there wasn't another car in sight and after 0.3 miles, you get the most gorgeous views! We hiked for about 4 miles before heading back and it just kept getting better. The trail is a steady incline and the path is packed gravel for the most part. This is definitely a trail we will return to and are so glad we stumbled upon it!!

With the "normal" route to the tri-state point being recently closed to the public, I decided to adventure via MTB and discover myself a new route. All I can say is WOW, absolutely stunning views. So glad I made the trip today!

Beautiful place, I drove up to the top in 2 wheel drive but came down in 4-low to save riding brakes all the way down. Sign at the top says camping only in designated areas??? Anyone know where that's at? I figured out 3 camping is behind a locked gate until hunting season.
