This park is beautiful and peaceful—but don’t forget the bug spray, unless you want to donate a pint of blood to the mosquitoes. At one point, we must’ve taken a wrong turn because we ended up weaving through cypress trees like it was some kind of obstacle course. The park has a picnic area, fishing, and camping. It’s clean, quiet, and not very crowded. Perfect for kids or for anyone who wants a peaceful day outdoors (mosquitoes included).

Lumber River State Park is a very nice and well-maintained park. The grounds are clean, the facilities are kept up well, and overall it’s a peaceful place to spend some time outdoors. The trails are enjoyable and give a good way to explore the area along the river. They’re not overly difficult and are great for a relaxing walk through nature. The trails are enjoyable and give a good way to explore the area along the river. They’re not overly difficult and are great for a relaxing walk through nature. Fishing from the bank can be a bit challenging, though. Having a kayak or canoe would definitely make the fishing much better and allow you to reach more productive spots along the Lumber River. Overall, it’s a great place to visit if you enjoy quiet scenery, good trails, and a well-kept park. Just keep expectations realistic if fishing from the bank is your main goal. Note I do offer a decked fish from also. This is the larger of the two lumber River State Parks and has more amenities in my opinion. **State fishing license and required!**

Great little spot, helpful ranger, and extremely quiet (aside from the neighboring dogs which act up once in a while). Camp spots were also nice, tidy, and cheap.

Great Trails to Hike, this very rural state park offers numerous campsites & well maintained facilities and picnic areas. You will see so many beautiful views of the winding lumber river and NC wetlands.

Enjoyable hike. I loved the Griffin’s Whirl dock. The water had interesting swirls that were captivating. We brought our dog and enjoyed a picnic lunch at one of the many available tables. There were only two cars we arrived and maybe six when we left. Boat launch was accessible from the parking lot. There were lovely wooden swings by the water. We brought our dog and enjoyed a picnic lunch at one of the many available tables. There were only two cars we arrived and maybe six when we left. Boat launch was accessible from the parking lot. There were lovely wooden swings by the water. We saw a huge blue heron, some turtles, one harmless snake. Be liberal with the bug spray, the mosquitos were plentiful. The trails were well-maintained. We did all the trails in maybe 1.5 hours.
