Standing Indian Campground is located within Nantahala National Forest (Macon County), N.C. It’s a spacious, charming, laidback, family campground with a great staff and a lot of friendly campers. There’s several hiking 🥾trails, water streams, bathhouses and restrooms throughout the campground that are very clean and the campground is well maintained! The 🏕️ has some of the most gorgeous panoramic views of the forest. Glad I found this hidden jewel and will definitely circle back. A very nice Ingles grocery store is (15) miles away with a fuel station and (16) gas pumps 🚘🚙- the breakfast is great! Just a note: This campground ‘does not’ accept credit cards, ‘cash and checks’ only. In addition, there’s no electricity or water at any of the (85) campsites; thus you’ll need to bring a generator or wing it. They do have water pumps scattered around the campground for campers to access and take back to there sites via a bucket 🪣 of some sort. #HappyCamping🏕️ #HappyPeople #HappyFall🍂🍃🍁🧡 #HappyPlaces❤️ 10/2025🌳

If you want to get off the grid and enjoy a peaceful outdoor adventure this is the place! Absolutely no cell service or internet here (even the camp store is wifi free.) A quiet getaway. We had a perfect campsite with lots of privacy and space. Lots of trees for hammocks. Great trails with flowers and a rushing river. Bathrooms are clean and well kept. Couldn’t have been better!

And if we all take care of the camp, we can keep it around and in good condition for years and years to come!! (For the love of everything holy, pick up your trash!)

I don't know how I have missed this one over the years. We camped the week after July 4th and were lucky enough to get to experience the rhododendrons in full bloom along with many other wild flowers. Quiet ,Peaceful and well maintained. The bathrooms and showers were kept very clean even with some rain and mud. The camp hosts are friendly and informative. Great hiking in the area. If you really want to unplug this is the place. You will get no cell service at your campsite. If you need to check in occasionally we found if you drive a mile and a half from the camp office to the Rock Gap Trailhead parking area we had good service.(Verizon) This campground had no electric sites and no electric outlets in the bathrooms. We tent camped in the back loop and enjoyed the privacy. You could hear the sound of rushing water from the creek. We will definitely be back to this campground again

We spent 6 nights at Standing Indian and had a wonderful time! The people were so friendly, from the camp store to all the camp hosts located in each ring. The showers and restrooms were very clean and well cared for, which often isn't the case at most other campgrounds. I'd highly recommend a stay here, you won't be disappointed!
