Have had a few fun trips there. Great mtb and lots of space to kayak. Although on the weekends there is a ton of boat traffic so don't expect a smooth lake for kayaking. If you go on the weekdays early it is much less busy.

My boys thought it was cool to drive over the dam. On the other side is a trail if you want to hike. And you can access the lake for kayaks, fishing and swimming. This was the only access point that was open today, probably due to the Governor's executive orders.

If you want to see a beautiful sunset, without having to go that far from Wilkesboro, this place is the best in the area. I have always loved this place, not only because of what it means to me personally, but because it has beautiful views and many fun things like the playground for the children, hiking, a quiet walk with your family or a bike ride.

This was a nice place to visit with our kids! Very quiet and peaceful! There was an easy walking trail next to the visitors center that went down to a viewing area and then back up to the parking lot. We were disappointed that the visitor's center is currently closed due to covid-19.
