About Rough Ridge Campground

One of two group campgrounds located adjacent to Tellico River, each site in Rough Ridge Campground contains two picnic tables, two lantern posts, and a grill/firering. These sites can accommodate two 26 foot camping trailers and four cars.

Nestled in the heart of North Carolina's beautiful national forest landscape, Rough Ridge Campground offers an intimate camping experience for those seeking to escape the crowds and reconnect with nature. With just five sites, this small but mighty campground provides the kind of peaceful, secluded atmosphere that many RV enthusiasts dream about. The limited number of sites means you'll enjoy a quieter setting where the sounds of the forest take center stage, making it an ideal choice for families and couples looking for a more personal outdoor adventure.

The surrounding national forest provides endless opportunities for exploration and outdoor recreation. Hiking trails wind through pristine woodlands, offering everything from leisurely nature walks to more challenging treks with rewarding vistas. The area's natural beauty is particularly stunning during fall when the foliage transforms the landscape into a tapestry of reds, oranges, and golds, making it a prime destination for leaf-peepers and nature photographers. Spring brings wildflowers and rushing streams, while summer offers cool forest shade and wildlife viewing opportunities.

The campground's location puts you within reasonable distance of several North Carolina attractions and charming small towns. The region is known for its mountain scenery, outdoor heritage, and local culture. Nearby communities offer authentic dining experiences, local shops, and cultural attractions that showcase the character of rural North Carolina. Whether you're interested in exploring historic sites, visiting local breweries, or simply enjoying farm-to-table restaurants, there's plenty to discover in the surrounding area.

This campground is perfect for RV owners who value quality over quantity and prefer a more rustic, back-to-nature experience. It's ideal for those seeking solitude, outdoor enthusiasts who want convenient access to trails and natural attractions, and anyone looking to unplug from the hustle and bustle of modern life. The highly-rated reviews from previous visitors speak to the exceptional experience this small national forest gem consistently delivers.

As an engagement photographer, this is one of the most beautiful locations for photos!! The hike is relatively short and the view is very rewarding. Tends to be crowded, but people are usually very kind to let you have a few minutes at the good spots. Can't wait to come back here!!

Intense trail up. Good with taking breaks. If you only make it to the 1st overlook where the wooden deck steps start. That is a great spot too. Several overlooks. Worth the workout if you have the proper shoes. Stepping on rocks at angles is required. I would come back with hiking sticks/ poles.

Rocky trail up but one of my favorite views. You can see for miles one way and see Grandfather Mountain the other way. Very crowded, especially during foliage season, but worth the crowds. There are multiple rocky overlooks as you go up; the further up you go, the less crowded they get. The trail is relatively steep but the workout is well worth it.

Great scenic views from the overlooks, hike is not tough but definitely wearing good shoes help, went 2 weeks for fall colors and it was a perfect spot to sit and relax. Parking can be hard during busy seasons, however there are other spots ahead to park and walk carefully to this spot, there are strenuous hikes as well.
