About CCC Campground

Campground in North Dakota.

Nestled in the heart of northwestern North Dakota, CCC Campground offers RV travelers a genuine escape into the natural beauty of the American frontier. Located near Watford City, this national forest campground provides an authentic camping experience that combines accessibility with the rugged charm of the Great Plains and badlands region.

The area surrounding CCC Campground is characterized by wide-open spaces, rolling prairie landscapes, and the unique geological formations that make North Dakota's badlands so captivating. Visitors to this region discover a landscape shaped by ancient geological forces, with layers of colorful rock formations and scenic vistas that seem to stretch endlessly across the horizon. The relatively undeveloped nature of this corner of the state means fewer crowds and a more peaceful camping experience than you might find in more heavily touristed destinations.

Watford City serves as the nearest hub for supplies and services, offering convenient access to groceries, fuel, and dining options while maintaining the quiet, small-town character that appeals to many RV enthusiasts. The town is situated in the heart of the Bakken region, which has experienced significant development over recent decades, but the surrounding natural areas remain largely unspoiled and inviting for outdoor recreation.

The camping experience here appeals particularly to travelers seeking solitude, nature lovers, photographers, and anyone interested in exploring lesser-known corners of the American West. The clear night skies typical of this region make stargazing exceptional, and the relatively light light pollution means you can truly appreciate the majesty of the night sky. This is ideal territory for those who enjoy hiking, wildlife observation, and simply disconnecting from the hustle of everyday life.

The badlands landscapes nearby offer endless opportunities for exploration and photography. Whether you're interested in geology, history, or simply taking in sweeping vistas, the natural environment around Watford City provides compelling reasons to linger. Many visitors find that a stay at CCC Campground becomes a favorite memory, offering the kind of authentic outdoor experience that modern RV travel makes possible without sacrificing comfort.

Sunrise and sunsets are equally beautiful. We made reservations well in advance, however we could have found a site with no problem without a reservation at the time of the year we visited. The vault toilets were immaculate. Sites are very well spaced. We were surprised at the shape of the interior road, and our site in particular. The rocks, sand and dirt were not compacted enough throughout parts of the campground leaving some areas extremely soft and full of deep ruts. As others have mentioned, a 4 wheel drive vehicle is needed to get through some of the areas. This being said, the location, beauty and peacefulness still make it a wonderful campground. The 50 amp electric is another great perk!! This is a pack in take out campground so there are no garbage dumpsters. We would return. Don't miss the Prairie Dog Town as you pull into the campground!

Very nice campground. Water was turned off in October, be prepared. The web site did not mention that water would not be available during our stay so we were unprepared.

What a beautiful campground with extremely clean vault toilets, well spaced campsites, new park benches, and fire pits! Very budget friendly site fee, especially with electrical and water readily available. We will be back!
