About Atwood Lake Campground (main gate)

Campground in Ohio.

Nestled in the rolling hills of eastern Ohio, Atwood Lake Campground offers a serene escape into nature where water, woodland, and outdoor recreation converge. This public campground sits along the shores of Atwood Lake, a beautiful 1,000-acre reservoir that serves as the heart of the experience. The landscape here is quintessentially Midwestern, with gently sloping terrain, mature trees, and plenty of open spaces that make it feel both welcoming and peaceful.

The lake itself is the primary draw for many visitors. Whether you're an angler hoping to catch bass, catfish, or crappie, a boater looking to explore the water, or simply someone who enjoys being near the shoreline, Atwood Lake delivers. The calm waters are perfect for recreational boating, and the fishing reputation here brings enthusiasts from across the region. Even if fishing and boating aren't your activities, the lake provides a stunning backdrop for your campsite and endless opportunities for waterfront relaxation.

Beyond the water, the surrounding area offers plenty to explore. The campground itself is well-situated for accessing the broader Atwood Lake Park area, which includes hiking trails, picnic areas, and scenic overlooks. The region's natural beauty comes through in its forests and wildlife. Bird watchers will find plenty to keep them occupied, and nature photographers appreciate the changing seasonal landscapes. The proximity to multiple trails means you can spend your days hiking through Ohio's countryside, discovering wildflowers in spring, enjoying cool shade in summer, and witnessing spectacular fall foliage.

This campground appeals to families seeking a traditional outdoor vacation, couples looking for a peaceful retreat, fishing enthusiasts planning their next trip, and anyone who appreciates being close to nature without traveling too far from civilization. The area strikes a balance between remote enough to feel like a true getaway and accessible enough for weekend trips. Summer is bustling with activity, while spring and fall offer quieter experiences with equally beautiful scenery.

The charm of Atwood Lake Campground lies in its no-frills approach to outdoor recreation. It's a place where the focus remains on the natural environment, the activities the landscape provides, and the simple pleasure of camping. Whether you're pulling up in an RV for a long stay or a quick weekend escape, you'll find yourself surrounded by the kind of pastoral Ohio scenery that makes camping trips memorable.

Went for a quick hike and had so much fun. They have 2 really nice and easy trails. Can also bike through the trails. The trails are easy enough for younger kids as well. Would highly recommend visiting if you're in the area.

Did all outdoor activities. They had a festival going on with many crafts, old tractors, live entertainment, food and much more. Great time. Easy access for all. Offering rides from parking to main activities.

Who doesn't lo e going to the lake?!?! It's absolutely gorgeous out here. You can rent pontoon boats if you don't have your own, or just swim or relax on the beach all day long. It's very affordable, $10 per car load. There is a restriction on boat engines. They can't be more than 25hp, but that's plenty.

Nice back in site, concrete with picnic table and fire ring. Nice separation between sites, most of the trees near us were young so minimal shade. Bath house was new and very clean. Laundry was available but only two washers and two dryers. There is a Park store which has a nice variety of stuff - snacks, cleaning supplies, RV stuff and a cafe. Lots of areas to ride our ebikes and walk our best friends. Really nice Park staff. Very nice dog park near the Welcome Center.
