Calera is popular during peak season. Reserve 2-4 weeks in advance for weekends and holidays.
Most parks have check-in after 1:00 PM and check-out by 11:00 AM. Call ahead if you'll arrive late.

Hands down our favorite place to go horse camping!! Nice big parking spots, all hook ups, right on the lake, the horses have actual pens, not just a high line and the trails are the best!! We've spent our last 2 wedding anniversaries here and will be back as much as we can!

We camped at the park this weekend and were having a great time until our interaction with the park host. We had our pontoon tied to the dock off to the side and were on the boat fishing. The park host approached us and, while pointing at a sign that only faces the land (not the water), said, “Can you not read?” We immediately moved our boat to the beach once we understood the issue. The sign is not visible from the water, and we had absolutely no intention of breaking any rules. Our concern is with how the situation was handled. A simple explanation would have resolved everything, but instead we were spoken to in a rude and condescending manner. For someone in a customer-facing, service-oriented role, that kind of behavior is unacceptable. It created a negative experience that could have easily been avoided. We hope this is addressed, as guests shouldn’t be treated that way.

Great quiet spot! $24/night with water and electric hookups. Lots of fish, fun kayaking.

Came for a get away, we didn’t know we would have to contend with 30-40 cats in our campsite daily. It smells like a litter box. Spoke to the attendant on duty and was told that’s the way it is here you didn’t have to come here to camp. Very unprofessional lady who is working here. We have been camping here for 25+ years and I’ve never been dealt this way or spoken to this way by a state employee.... Pretty lake & nice flat area to camp at. This is a really good camping area for everyone that has horses. The park manger comes by several times & so does the park ranger. Maybe that should make you feel safe? There are not any restrooms with lights or showers in certain areas during the winter months. Not a bad area but if you want more trees, i would go somewhere else.
