Oklahoma City East KOA Holiday

I tent camp year round in all locations, even in places where snow is measured in feet. This location was ideal for what I was looking for. Within a half hour of downtown OKC, electric hookup (bonus!), and a reasonable price. Now for all the bad... Yep, it is close to the highway. I could likely throw something and hit the highway from my campsite. Be prepared for noisy vehicles through the nigh... I could likely throw something and hit the highway from my campsite. Be prepared for noisy vehicles through the night. Why they put the tent sites closest to the highway is very confusing. Yes, I cheated for this trip and brought an electric heater. It's one that I have no problems with at home on a 15 amp circuit. Here...it dimmed my LED lights anytime it turned on. To me, that indicates under-sized wiring to the campsite. It should be expected that tent campers will use small heaters, which usually use more power than the one I have, during cooler camping. My wood stove provided us with most of the heat and cooking needs, so I limited the heater use. This is a fire hazard for the campground, especially if multiple tent sites are in use. I'm glad I have a SUV with good clearance and AWD. It would be rough to even get to the tent camping area with a standard sedan. The bathrooms need a lot of work. The weekend started out ok with just some burnt out light bulbs. No big deal. The shower was still hot and it was clean. Things got worse through the weekend. One bathroom has a light switch that's not correctly attached - another fire hazard. Pressing it sometimes works. After a long day, we arrived back to over half the toilets being clogged and very little water. The next morning...no water at all. I'm glad I have enough in the tent. We were all hoping for showers. The tent pad itself is ok. Gravel, so a hammer is needed to get stakes in. Outside of the pad, most of the ground was pretty sandy. You'll need longer stakes for any type of grip. The staff at check in was nice and so was the bathroom cleaning person. So, no problems there. The facilities are just not very nice for tent camping. I might be back, only for the convenience. Next time, I'll take my portable toilet and some ear plugs! Edit: I talked with the staff about some of the above issues. They assured me that plans are in place to fix the ones they can (hard to move the tent area). I talked with the actual maintenance guy and he's struggling with the backlog of stuff. They have tried hiring helpers, but have not been successful.

Rented an RV spot and a cabin. Issues from the start, no water for days and was told later that this was a recurring issue. Cabin had water bugs all over it, and living in the toilet. The RV site was backed up to a private property that looked like a junk yard, no fence between the site and property. The sites were dirt and gravel which is fine, but were not even close to being level or maintained. Dog poop everywhere. Residents let their pets use the bathroom at empty spots and leave the droppings there and apparently there are no rules upheld as full time residents have junk everywhere. This is a subpar park for a KOA and has zero company oversight. There was a time where I enjoyed the KOA's due to space and cleanliness, but this seems to be fading with unchecked franchises. The monthly rate here is overpriced at $740 for a full hookup site and not worth the cost. Pictures on the website are deceiving compared to the actual onsite experience. Overall location is not bad. 30 minutes from OKC if you don't mind the commute. There are many parks in the OKC area and would not recommend this KOA.
