Cleanest pit toilet ever! The resort owners cleaned the toilet three times a day. It really helped improve our stay! The wind really whips through the campsites because of the fire damage. There is often a fire restriction (although who knows what's left to burn) and that is disappointing when camping. But the sky is usually so clear that the stars are phenomenal. We often compete to view the satellite shows! There are only 5 spots with shade, so get there early. And remember, the road is super rough and dusty. Don't risk it if you can't handle the dust and jolting while you get there.

Very, very, long, pot hole filled, gravel road for about the last 12 to 15 miles of the trip. Highly recommend a higher clearance vehicle, as different sections of the road, make it extremely difficult for the lower clearance vehicles. The last 15 miles takes about an hour or do to drive due to having to drive so slow. Road narrows in multiple spots, and makes it difficult when passing vehicles. W... WITH ALL THAT SAID,THIS LAKE WAS WELL WORTH THE DRIVE AND ANXIETY! We rented a canoe, went fishing[not the best but fun for the kids and we did catch 2 rainbow trouts], went hiking/walking around the lake, floating-water is pretty shallow most of the way out until you get out closer to the middle, pretty calm and relaxing area, bonus is that it forces everyone to unplug since there is no cell service! Hope this helps the next traveler! BIG TIP BRING A PAPER MAP OR DOWNLOAD OFFLINE MAPS AS YOU WILL NEED THEM! Picture below of the lake from 2 different viewpoints, and a picture of the gravel road in a nicer part of the road! Also they have a little store at the resort that sells ice, some trinkets, and other small items you may have forgotten!

Beautiful spot. Rode in on motorcycles (ADV bikes) from Breitenbush around Horseshoe Lake...rough, steep and exciting for sure. Bring mosquito repellent if it is warm.

This is a nice camping area on a lake that's surroundings are otherwise completely burned. Sad, but still offers remote beauty and silence. Road out here is not so bad -- your Subaru and any other mid-sized SUV will be fine. It's a long haul.

Beautiful campground surrounded by forest and adjacent to the lake. Many sites to drop in and settle. Some plots are double sites for larger family and friends groups. Other sites are more secluded and offer a perfect getaway. Roads getting there from Estacada start off well but do get rough the closer you are, so make sure if you're in a sedan like I was, that you prepare, stay alert while driving, and take it slow when it gets rough and rocky. Overall some of the best camping I've enjoyed.
