About Dispersed Camping

Campground in Oregon.

Dispersed camping in Oregon offers RV enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers an authentic, affordable way to experience the state's stunning natural landscapes. This type of public camping allows visitors to set up their rigs on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and National Forest lands throughout Oregon, providing unparalleled access to some of the Pacific Northwest's most pristine wilderness areas.

Oregon's dispersed camping opportunities span diverse ecosystems and terrain. From the high desert regions of eastern Oregon to the lush forests of the Cascade Range and the rugged beauty of the Blue Mountains, dispersed sites put you directly in nature without the overhead costs of traditional RV parks. You'll find yourself surrounded by towering ponderosa pines, alongside pristine rivers and lakes, or perched at elevations that offer sweeping vistas across vast landscapes. The flexibility of dispersed camping means you can choose your own adventure, whether that's proximity to hiking trails, fishing spots, or scenic overlooks.

What makes dispersed camping particularly appealing is the sense of solitude and freedom it provides. Unlike crowded commercial campgrounds, these public lands offer a more intimate connection with nature. You can stay for extended periods in many locations, making it perfect for those seeking a slower pace of travel and deeper exploration. The cost is minimal or often free, making it an excellent option for budget-conscious travelers who don't want to sacrifice the RV camping experience.

Oregon's location makes it ideal for accessing incredible attractions. Crater Lake's stunning blue waters, the dramatic Oregon Coast, the geological wonders of the High Desert, and countless outdoor recreation areas are all within reach. Whether you're an avid angler, hiker, photographer, or simply someone seeking peace and quiet under the stars, dispersed camping in Oregon delivers an unforgettable experience that combines freedom, affordability, and access to some of the most beautiful scenery the Pacific Northwest has to offer.

Great if you have a RV or camper it's a gravel parking lot with access to a boat ramp and the river. If you want tent and group camping I would go to the left instead of straight. You would be going to burnt ranch campground there it opens up to the whole valley. Highly recommended

Car sites fill fast (we arrived on Thursday) but there is a ton of overflow walk in camping. For walk in camping, we opted to cook dinner at the fire ring in the day use area, which looked new and hardly used. Great access to the Painted Hills. Lots of bike campers and river rafting folks when we were there. Worth the absolutely stunning drive in. While the drive in IS gravel / dirt, it would... Room for the wHOLE family - these spots are huge! There are also 2 group camp sites with parking for about 15 cars (one on the river bar and one on the hillside. If you don't like the "upgrade" then there are plenty of primitive sites on burnt ranch rd. along the river going west beyond the rec site (check the last photo). The river is also friendly but bring inflatables for where it gets rocky and shallow; and be wary of rattlesnakes when getting out (nest at the take out picnic area).
