About Free camping

Free camping. A few RV standing in 2 places in that long isolated street.

Oregon's public lands offer some of the most rewarding camping experiences in the Pacific Northwest, and free camping opportunities provide an authentic way to explore the state's diverse landscapes without breaking the bank. With a solid 4.6-star rating from over 60 visitors, this public campground represents the kind of hidden gem that makes Oregon such a destination for RV travelers seeking solitude and natural beauty.

Free camping in Oregon opens doors to exploring everything from dramatic coastal cliffs and misty forests to high desert plateaus and pristine mountain lakes. The state's generous public camping policies mean you can park your RV and wake up surrounded by towering pines, volcanic rock formations, or sparkling waterfront views. Many of these locations are situated near some of Oregon's most iconic attractions, from Crater Lake's otherworldly beauty to the Columbia River Gorge's stunning scenic drives.

What makes free camping so appealing is the authentic connection it creates with the landscape. You'll find yourself in places where fewer tourists venture, where morning coffee tastes better when sipped while watching mist rise off a mountain lake or hiking trails lead to hidden waterfalls. Oregon's public camping areas range from developed sites with basic amenities to more primitive spots perfect for those seeking complete immersion in nature.

The region surrounding public camping areas typically offers excellent opportunities for outdoor recreation. Hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing, and photography are all world-class pursuits. Many campers appreciate the flexibility that free camping provides, allowing them to stay longer in places they love without worrying about nightly fees, or to move frequently and explore multiple locations throughout their Oregon adventure.

Whether you're a full-time RVer looking to stretch your budget, a part-time traveler seeking authentic experiences, or an outdoor enthusiast wanting unfettered access to natural spaces, Oregon's free camping options deliver exceptional value and memories. The 4.6-star rating speaks to consistent quality and visitor satisfaction, making this a trusted choice for those ready to discover Oregon's incredible public lands.

Cool quiet place. It’s plowed in the winter. There wasn’t much snow here on January 5-6th, 2025. It’s direct access onto the road from the highway exit. It’s a rough road about 1.2 miles, that’s bumpy and has lots of pot holes. Snow coverage on the road was minimal, max 2”. The actual camp area is concrete platforms with a picnic table and fire pit in a roundabout around the vault restroom. Cool quiet place. It’s plowed in the winter. Oh my gosh you guys, this is a really great little place to sleep in my van. My friend slept outside next to the fire to presumably see the stars. He was completely huddled up inside the sleeping bag because it was something like 36. It was cold. There is a lovely meadow there! I think there's five camping spots, there is no potable water, there is no trash cans. There is a vault toilet. Really ni... Amazing campground. Saw deer on the way in. Green, lush forest all around with the creek babbling and running right near the sites. It is a hardpack gravel road. Watch for potholes. Single, clean restroom facility. Based on a couple trails near the sites it looks like they may be used for off-roading. We were the only ones there. 1st-2nd of June 2022. I will definitely be back
