About Sunset Bay Campground

Campground in Oregon.

Sunset Bay Campground offers a remarkable Pacific Northwest camping experience in one of Oregon's most scenic coastal destinations. Located near Coos Bay on the southern Oregon coast, this public campground serves as an ideal base for exploring some of the region's most dramatic natural attractions and charming coastal communities.

The campground's setting provides easy access to some of Oregon's most iconic coastal features. Nearby Cape Arago State Park showcases dramatic rocky headlands, sea caves, and opportunities to spot wildlife including seals and sea lions in their natural habitat. The Three Arches Rock formation creates a stunning visual backdrop, and tide pools reveal fascinating marine ecosystems during low tide. These natural wonders are within a short drive, making them perfect for day adventures while you return to your comfortable camping spot.

Coos Bay itself is a working waterfront community with genuine maritime character. The area offers fresh seafood restaurants, local shops, and a chance to experience authentic Oregon coastal culture without the tourist crowds of more famous destinations. Downtown areas feature galleries, antique shops, and family-friendly dining options. For those interested in history and maritime heritage, several museums showcase the region's logging and fishing legacy.

The outdoor recreation opportunities extend far beyond the immediate coast. Nearby forests offer hiking trails through old-growth timber, opportunities for wildlife viewing, and peaceful natural settings that showcase the lush Oregon landscape. Freshwater lakes in the vicinity provide additional recreation options for those interested in different water activities. The mild coastal climate makes the area enjoyable for camping throughout much of the year, though summer months offer the warmest, most reliable weather.

This location appeals to travelers seeking authentic coastal experiences away from heavily developed tourist areas, families wanting to introduce children to tide pools and marine life, and nature enthusiasts interested in Pacific Northwest ecology. Whether you're a full-time RVer or weekend camper, Sunset Bay Campground provides a peaceful home base for exploring one of Oregon's most rewarding coastal regions.

This campground location is beautiful. The bathrooms are clean. People are friendly and gave us great hiking recommendations. The only issue we had was there is no cell service and the Wi-Fi was dysfunctional. The servers that hosted it had expired certificates so even if you could get access, all you could do is text and email. You could not get access to any sites.

Old campground with root-heaved parking spurs and one of the oldest restroom/shower buildings (A Loop) I've seen in Oregon State Parks. The 30-amp power was pure on my analyzer and the water tastes ok. 1 bar of Verizon. We stayed in site A06. Campground is walking distance to Sunset Beach, which is absolutely gorgeous. Shore Acres State Park is just down the road a few miles (the botanical garden there is pretty cool) and Bastendorff Beach is just north. The campground is less than 15 minutes to services in North Bend/Coos Bay.

Nice little campground in the trees with a stream running through. Decent sized campsite, we were in A18. My only complaint is that there were kids everywhere, riding bikes, scooters, yelling nonstop. I know this isn't the campgrounds fault but it was really loud. There's a trail that leads to the botanical garden, one of my favorite hikes of all time. Also a trail to the beach that goes under... Beautiful little campground with beach across the street. Hike to Arago Point starts here. Fabulous ocean views.
