About ALDER DUNE

Federal campground in Oregon.

Nestled in the heart of Oregon's stunning coastal landscape, Alder Dune offers RV campers an exceptional gateway to experiencing the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. This National Forest campground provides an ideal base for exploring some of the most dramatic coastal scenery the region has to offer, with direct access to pristine beaches, towering sand dunes, and lush forest environments that define Oregon's coastline.

The location puts you within easy reach of some truly remarkable natural attractions. The nearby sand dunes create an otherworldly landscape perfect for exploration and photography, while the adjacent beaches offer opportunities for beachcombing, tide pooling, and enjoying spectacular ocean views. The contrast between the rugged coastal terrain and the sheltered forest setting gives visitors the best of both worlds in a single destination.

For those who love outdoor recreation, the area surrounding Alder Dune is a paradise. Hiking trails wind through coastal forests offering glimpses of native wildlife and native plant species. The nearby beaches are perfect for families looking to collect shells, spot sea lions, and watch for migrating whales depending on the season. Photography enthusiasts will find endless opportunities to capture the dramatic interplay of sand, sea, and sky.

The camping experience here appeals to a wide range of travelers. Families appreciate the manageable size and accessible amenities, while serious outdoor enthusiasts value the proximity to undeveloped natural areas. Those seeking a quieter pace will find the forest setting peaceful and rejuvenating, far from the bustle of larger commercial parks.

Oregon's central coast offers much to explore beyond the campground itself. Charming coastal towns with local restaurants, shops, and visitor services are within reasonable driving distance. The region's rich history, from Native American heritage to maritime traditions, adds cultural depth to your camping adventure.

Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat in nature, a base camp for coastal exploration, or a place to reconnect with family and friends, Alder Dune delivers an authentic Pacific Northwest camping experience in one of the most beautiful corners of Oregon.

$31 dollars to put up a tent for a night with just the basics. Picknick table and fire ring. water in certain places. At least the pit toilets were some of the cleanest we encountered on our 10 day camping trip. Also it is far away from the beach and the dunes around the campground are not high enough that you could see the beach or a sunset. You can still get some pretty pictures just not of the... $31 dollars to put up a tent for a night with just the basics. Picknick table and fire ring. water in certain places. Nice little forest service campground. Wooded with a secluded feel. Clean. Quiet. Super nice host. Not on ocean, but can hear a quiet ocean roar.

Basic campground with a kind manager. She helped us out and was very accommodating. We came here without any reservations around 8:30pm and got a spot. There are paved spots, some level some not. They all come with a little area to pitch a tent, a picnic table and a fire pit. The bathroom has a composting toilet and some hand sanitizer. It had grab bars on the walls and was quite large. I didn't use it so I can't speak to whether it's potable. Our spot cost us about $36 for the night. We felt very safe and people were kind.

Pros: convenient location, the lake is pretty, lots of wild Berries, cute little trails around the lake, very clean bathrooms for a campsite. Cons: you can hear cars on the highway at night, the lake is quite small and we found 3 random fish hooks near the shore, the spots were tiny (we literally had to set one of the tents up on the cement) and close to one another (we heard lots of other camper... It was sufficient for our needs, but nothing spectacular. Seems like it is well-suited for RV camping, though.
