About Alder Dune Campground

Campground in Oregon.

Nestled along the stunning Oregon Coast near Florence, Alder Dune Campground offers RV travelers an exceptional gateway to one of the Pacific Northwest's most captivating coastal regions. This National Forest campground provides a perfect base for exploring the natural wonders and charming communities that make the central Oregon coast so beloved by outdoor enthusiasts.

The campground's location on Highway 101 places you within easy reach of some truly remarkable attractions. Florence itself is a delightful coastal town with a rich maritime heritage, featuring a working waterfront, excellent seafood restaurants, and local shops that capture the authentic spirit of Oregon's fishing villages. The nearby Sea Lion Caves, just a short drive north, offer a unique opportunity to observe hundreds of wild Steller sea lions in their natural habitat within a massive sea cave. Heceta Head Lighthouse and its scenic viewpoints are also conveniently accessible, providing spectacular ocean vistas and excellent photo opportunities.

For beach lovers, the area boasts beautiful stretches of sandy coastline perfect for walking, tide pooling, and sunset viewing. The nearby dunes and beach access areas offer opportunities for exploration and nature photography. Anglers will appreciate the proximity to excellent fishing spots, including the Siuslaw River and coastal streams known for salmon and steelhead. The surrounding Siuslaw National Forest provides numerous hiking trails through old-growth forests and along pristine waterways for those seeking adventure beyond the campground.

The region's temperate climate, while often featuring Pacific Northwest drizzle, creates a lush green landscape that's especially beautiful during spring and fall. Summer brings milder weather and is peak season for visiting. Whether you're seeking a relaxing beach retreat, an adventure-filled outdoor escape, or a chance to immerse yourself in coastal Oregon culture, Alder Dune Campground's strategic location makes it an ideal RV destination. The campground serves as a comfortable home base whether you plan to stay put and enjoy the immediate surroundings or use it as a jumping-off point for exploring further along this magnificent coastline.

$31 dollars to put up a tent for a night with just the basics. Picknick table and fire ring. water in certain places. At least the pit toilets were some of the cleanest we encountered on our 10 day camping trip. Also it is far away from the beach and the dunes around the campground are not high enough that you could see the beach or a sunset. You can still get some pretty pictures just not of the... $31 dollars to put up a tent for a night with just the basics. Picknick table and fire ring. water in certain places. Nice little forest service campground. Wooded with a secluded feel. Clean. Quiet. Super nice host. Not on ocean, but can hear a quiet ocean roar.

Basic campground with a kind manager. She helped us out and was very accommodating. We came here without any reservations around 8:30pm and got a spot. There are paved spots, some level some not. They all come with a little area to pitch a tent, a picnic table and a fire pit. The bathroom has a composting toilet and some hand sanitizer. It had grab bars on the walls and was quite large. It seemed... Basic campground with a kind manager. She helped us out and was very accommodating. We came here without any reservations around 8:30pm and got a spot. I didn't use it so I can't speak to whether it's potable. Our spot cost us about $36 for the night. We felt very safe and people were kind.

Pros: convenient location, the lake is pretty, lots of wild Berries, cute little trails around the lake, very clean bathrooms for a campsite. Cons: you can hear cars on the highway at night, the lake is quite small and we found 3 random fish hooks near the shore, the spots were tiny (we literally had to set one of the tents up on the cement) and close to one another (we heard lots of other camper... It was sufficient for our needs, but nothing spectacular. Seems like it is well-suited for RV camping, though.
