About SPRING

Federal campground in Oregon.

Nestled in the heart of Oregon's stunning national forest landscape, Spring offers RV enthusiasts an authentic escape into nature's embrace. This national forest campground provides the perfect base for travelers seeking to disconnect from the hustle of everyday life while remaining connected to some of the Pacific Northwest's most breathtaking outdoor experiences.

The setting here is genuinely special. Towering evergreens frame the campground, creating natural windbreaks and providing that quintessential forest canopy experience that draws people to Oregon year after year. The air itself feels fresher here, carrying the distinctive scent of pine and earth that reminds you why you chose the RV lifestyle in the first place. Whether you're an early riser watching mist rise through the trees or someone who loves settling in by the campfire as evening falls, the natural rhythms of this forest setting create an incredibly peaceful atmosphere.

Location-wise, Spring positions you perfectly for exploring Oregon's remarkable national forest terrain. The surrounding region is a playground for hikers, with trails ranging from leisurely walks suitable for all fitness levels to more challenging adventures for experienced trekkers. Fishing opportunities abound in nearby waterways, making this an ideal destination for those looking to cast a line in pristine settings. Wildlife viewing is exceptional here too, with opportunities to spot deer, elk, and various bird species throughout the seasons.

The national forest setting means you're surrounded by protected lands and natural beauty that stretches for miles in every direction. This isn't a park laden with commercial attractions, but rather a genuine outdoor recreation hub. Day trips to viewpoints, scenic drives through winding mountain roads, and photography opportunities present themselves constantly throughout your stay.

For RV travelers, this location appeals to those who value authentic forest experiences over amenity-heavy facilities. Families seeking outdoor education and adventure, couples looking for romantic forest getaways, and solo travelers pursuing solitude and reflection all find their place here. The 4.3-star rating from fellow travelers speaks to the genuine appeal of this location and the quality experience visitors consistently encounter.

Paid for full hookups, but the water was off, and the dump was about 50 ft from our parking location. Didn't care for the non-stop barking from the camphost location when the camphost wasn't there. Also didn't care for one of their dogs (aggressive) running free when they were there while walking my small dog on a leash. Spring Drive RV Campground is a well maintained (Forestry Service) full hookup (50/30/20 AMP, water and sewer) that offers 9 sites that can handle even the largest rigs. It's very quiet with tall trees and shrubbery, gravel pads, fire rings and picnic tables. Elevation is around 3400 feet. The campground is an old Forestry Service work camp that was converted that still has some of the old work... The campground is an old Forestry Service work camp that was converted that still has some of the old work cabins on the sites that are not used. The park host do a great job of keeping it clean and well maintained. I was greeted by the park host as I was backing into my site. Of the 9 sites, 7 & 8 are probably the best sites, but that is being very picky because they are all great large sites. Sites 2, 4, 5 & 6 drives are backwards for an easy back in entrance so I suggest turning left as you enter the loop to gain easy back in approach if you're staying at one of these sites. Sites 4, 5, 6 & 7 have a slope up or down (depending on which site) that will be needed to taken into account when you're backing into them, but shouldn't be a problem. Things to consider are: There is absolutely no cell service in the campground. Period. You are in a very remote part of Mt. Hood Forest, but right off Hwy 216. Roads are well maintained. I was able to get 10 OTA channels (ABC, NBC, Local Fox, CW, Bounce and 5 PBS) (Sites 2, 7 & 8 provide the best open sky areas for satellite setup). It's mid May and from what I gather, unusually cold this year, average high 30's at night and mid 50's during the day. It rained everyday making being outside uncomfortable, especially after sunset when the temps dropped fast. There were no bugs because of how cold it was, but I can see when it warms up where that might be a consideration. The closest towns are Government Camp, 21 miles to the north on Hwy 26 and Maupin, 23 miles to the south on Hwy 216. Both offer modest accommodations. Sandy, Oregon is the largest city which is about an hour drive East on Hwy 26 that has all types of accommodations. So bring all provisions you'll need for your stay, or be prepared to drive. Make sure you're fuel is sufficient as Government Camp has 1 gas station (Gas & Diesel) and a small convenience store about 13 miles from camp that has expensive gas and camping food and supplies . Overall, the campground is a bargain, really clean, HUGE back in sites and offers tranquil settings to just relax. There is a really nice ATV/OHV rec area right next to the campground (McCubbins campground) that offers dry camping. I can see where someone who wants to use the OHV area and wants a full hookup, could base camp at Spring Drive and trailer next door to off road. Camping here before May? Expect snow!

I've been staying here since end of March and I am enjoying full hookup! This is the only place I know in Mt.Hood NF have full hookup RV campground and the price is 33/night with reservation fees. Since this is full service CG, there is no toilet nor shower. So far I like 3, 8 and 9. Easy back up!! Some sites need 2 to 3 dumphoses!! Enjoy

We had a lovely time. Weather cooperated. Full hook-ups, clean water, large sites. Some of the entries. require left entry, and others right, so you might need to drive the loop a time or two. Some drives are quite long with an uphill, or downhill back in. Tussok caterpillars were abundant and annoying. We will return
