About TAHKENITCH LANDING

Federal campground in Oregon.

Tahkenitch Landing offers a serene escape into Oregon's natural beauty, positioned perfectly for travelers seeking authentic Pacific Northwest camping experiences. Located in the heart of the Oregon Coast Range, this National Forest campground provides direct access to some of the region's most pristine waterways and outdoor recreation opportunities that make this corner of Oregon truly special.

The landscape surrounding Tahkenitch Landing is characterized by dense, towering forests and the peaceful Tahkenitch Lake, a destination that appeals to anglers, paddlers, and nature enthusiasts alike. The lake itself is a jewel for fishing, with opportunities to catch cutthroat trout and other freshwater species throughout the year. Canoeists and kayakers find the calm waters ideal for exploring at their own pace, with plenty of coves and inlets to discover. The surrounding forest provides excellent hiking trails for those who want to stretch their legs beyond their RV, offering glimpses of native wildlife and seasonal wildflowers depending on when you visit.

What makes this area particularly appealing is its relatively undeveloped character. Unlike heavily trafficked tourist destinations, Tahkenitch Landing maintains a quiet, contemplative atmosphere that allows visitors to truly disconnect from the bustle of everyday life. The nearby Siuslaw River offers additional recreational possibilities, while the region's extensive trail systems cater to hikers of varying abilities.

This location suits travelers who appreciate solitude and natural beauty over extensive amenities. Families looking for outdoor education opportunities, couples seeking peaceful getaways, and serious anglers will find plenty to enjoy. The mild Oregon climate means the area is accessible much of the year, though summer months offer the most comfortable camping weather. Birdwatchers particularly appreciate this region during migration seasons, when numerous species pass through the forest canopy overhead.

The closest towns provide supplies and services when needed, ensuring you're never too far from civilization while maintaining that coveted remote camping feel. Whether you're launching a canoe into calm waters, casting a fishing line, or simply listening to the forest around you, Tahkenitch Landing delivers an authentic National Forest experience.

Beautiful campground. The hosts were very attentive and helpful. Firewood was sold at a very reasonable price. The docks on site make for an easy launching point for a day of fun out on the lake and when back in the campgrounds you'll be greeted by the beauty of many different snails, banana slugs, stellar Jay's and salmon berries. We will definitely be booking another trip here in the future

Great spot to camp. We stayed in site 14 which had a lot of privacy. Super easy access to the lake. Just fill up your water before you come. They don't currently have any available.

No water, pot toilets, uneven ground from all the RV's and trailers. Great view of the lake.

Lovely, dry camping on a lake that offers fantastic paddling and hiking and summer fishing. The Forest Service recently reduced the number of sites by marrying smaller sites together. So, each site can accommodate a small group. This is great, because there are no group campgrounds nearby. But, chances are, this will raise the noise level a bit.

The camp host this year is wonderful! Sites are a bit small and little to no privacy between them, but they are well maintained. Bathrooms are clean. A couple sites say they can accommodate a 30' RV, our 27' barely fit in site 28 and would not have fit in the others. 2 nice docks and a boat launch/swimming hole where we caught a bunch of blue gill, perch, and bass.
