About BSA Camp Baldwin

Campground in Oregon.

Nestled in the scenic Dufur Valley of north-central Oregon, BSA Camp Baldwin offers RV travelers a peaceful retreat in a region known for its natural beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities. Located at 76201 Dufur Valley Road, this private RV park serves as an ideal base for exploring the diverse landscapes that make Oregon's high desert country so compelling.

The Dufur area sits at the gateway to some of Oregon's most stunning natural attractions. Just a short drive away, you'll find access to the mighty Columbia River, where water sports enthusiasts and anglers cast their lines in some of the Pacific Northwest's most productive fishing waters. The region is also home to numerous hiking trails that wind through sagebrush-covered hills and pine forests, offering everything from casual day hikes to more challenging backcountry adventures.

What makes this location particularly special is its proximity to Mount Hood, Oregon's iconic 11,240-foot peak that dominates the skyline. Whether you're interested in mountaineering, scenic drives, or simply admiring one of the West's most majestic mountains, Mount Hood is within reach. The area also offers excellent opportunities for bird watching, wildlife viewing, and photography, with the high desert landscape providing dramatic vistas throughout the year.

For those interested in local history and culture, the greater Hood River County area has much to offer. Small rural communities nearby maintain the character of historic Oregon, with local shops, orchards, and farm stands reflecting the region's agricultural heritage. The confluence of the Columbia River and smaller waterways creates multiple scenic corridors perfect for leisurely drives and exploration.

This location appeals to RV travelers seeking a quieter alternative to crowded campgrounds while maintaining convenient access to major attractions. Outdoor enthusiasts, nature photographers, and families looking to experience genuine Pacific Northwest landscape will find this region rewarding. The high desert setting means clear skies for stargazing and generally pleasant weather during the camping season, making it an excellent choice for those wanting to unwind and reconnect with nature.

This place is an AWESOME scout camp!! At the end of the week we got to ride bareback and received cool purple bandanas!! At first, I wasn't super hyped about coming here because it was very dusty and there was a poisonous caterpillar infestation going on... don't worry it only happens once in like 10 years so you'll probably be fine ha ha. Besides, this camp is all about teaching GRIT! The staff are cool people, really funny and made the week as great as it was. I went from counting down the days till we left to wanting to stay and hoping to staff next summer!! Hoping to see y'all at Baldwin soon!

You’ll have to go via The Dalles to Dufur and up Dufur Valley road. To hopefully answer some logistical questions I had prior to going- The staff cabins (where scouts stay in the winter) are heated, sleep 8, and have mattresses. Restrooms have showers and are plentiful the Ranger is very helpful and the volunteer staff labeled everything for the troops. Laundry available, as well as mops and cleaning supplies (leave it cleaner than you found it!) The cabins are about a 10min walk down a snowpack trail. Pulks were available to use, we brought our own. Snowshoes were helpful but not necessary. We brought our own tables and EZ Up to cook as cooking is not allowed in the cabins / cabin porch. There is a larger building for cooking, but I didn’t make it inside. 4x4 or All Wheel Drive w/ snow tires is recommended in the winter. The last 4 miles is not maintained by the county or state, it was ice pack when we went in but had melted by the time we left. Looking forward to a summer visit!

This is no time or place for amateur hour. No complaining. This is real wilderness and national forest. And if you have winter gear - take it! Perfect place for snowshoeing, sledding (take your bike helmet or winter helmet, per the rules), making snow caves (take some shovels and carving tools). Choose your own adventure!

This time, they didn't even know what to do or how to organize what needed to be done (food delivery or camp wide meals, for example). Everything that was scheduled was late (flag, food, activities, etc). Most of the stations for merit badges did a great job. We had a few stations that just wasn't prepared and just told the scouts to do most of it at home. They either need new leadership or more training. Hope they can get what they need. A lot of great things can happen here.

Camp Baldwin was a great camp for scouts to develop time management skills, team building and ofcourse cooking skills. Also, not entirely sure how they were able to design a camp where everything is up hill, so plan on a good pair of walking boots or shoes!
