About Cascade Locks / Portland East KOA

Campground in Oregon.

Cascade Locks / Portland East KOA offers an ideal base for exploring one of the Pacific Northwest's most dynamic regions. Located in the scenic Columbia River Gorge, this RV park puts you at the crossroads of natural beauty and urban adventure, just minutes from Portland's vibrant culture and world-class attractions.

The Columbia River Gorge itself is a marvel of geology and outdoor recreation. Towering basalt cliffs frame the river valley, creating one of the most photographed landscapes in America. Hiking enthusiasts will find themselves in paradise here, with countless trails ranging from easy riverside walks to challenging summit hikes. Multnomah Falls, one of the most iconic waterfalls in the country, cascades 620 feet down a moss-covered cliff face and is easily accessible from the park. The Historic Highway, which winds through the gorge, features numerous scenic overlooks and smaller waterfalls that make for perfect day trip destinations.

For those drawn to outdoor activities, the gorge offers exceptional opportunities for windsurfing and kiteboarding on the Columbia River, where consistent winds create ideal conditions for water sports. Fishing is another popular pursuit, with the river and nearby streams providing excellent angling opportunities throughout the year. Mountain bikers appreciate the network of trails in the area, while rock climbers find challenging routes on the gorge's impressive cliff faces.

Portland itself, located just east of the park, is a city renowned for its craft beer scene, exceptional food culture, and quirky artistic vibe. Powell's City of Books, one of the world's largest independent bookstores, is worth an entire afternoon of exploration. The city's neighborhoods each have distinct personalities, from the hipster energy of Southeast Portland to the industrial-chic Pearl District. Forest Park, an urban forest spanning over 5,200 acres, offers miles of trails and stunning city views without leaving Portland's limits.

This location appeals to travelers of all types: outdoor adventurers seeking mountain and water activities, cultural explorers wanting easy access to Portland's attractions, families looking for scenic drives and waterfall viewpoints, and road-trippers using the park as a convenient stopover on longer Pacific Northwest journeys. The blend of natural wonder and urban amenities makes this an exceptionally versatile destination.

If you want a quiet nights sleep don’t stay here. There is a train running 30 feet from the property just about every hour and blasts its horn the whole time. otherwise the campground is cute and staff is friendly.

We were here in September on vacation and needed to stay one night on our way to another Oregon state campground. There were two sites left. All campsites are in the dirt. Ours was 20 ft from the railroad. We had seen the reviews so we knew what to expect. Even so... yikes! The smell of diesel, the dust, the horn. The bathrooms were great but we never used them because the woman behind the counter was mean. On the checkout morning, when we realized that we were going to be late for their checkout time, we called and explained that we had overslept but we would be out about 10 minutes late. She gave us grief. There is no place to park unless you have a campsite, so when we checked out I mentioned to my husband that I wanted to use the bathroom. She overheard that and told us that we would not be able to use the showers or the bathrooms now that we were not paying customers. "It's not the policy of KOA to let people use facilities when they are not paying for a site". Bottom line? NEVER AGAIN. That is not the KOA way.

This place is amazing! They have super clean bathrooms/showers and you don’t have to worry about watching your surrounding for spiders or any other bug. There is phone service and you are close to Portland. The campsites are. A bit small but for how well kept the area is I’m okay with a smaller space. I haven’t used the WiFi but it is also available

We were generally happy with our stay. There are well-maintained toilets. Train tracks are close and you can hear them passing every few hours. The main problem is crowd management. Proximity to the waterfalls corridor was appreciated.
