We spent 3 days / 2 nights in what's called "Phase 1" (473 Seneca Hemlock Rd) in June 2020. The website description is misleading when it says "campsites are private, rustic, and not close to each other like in most other campgrounds". Our primitive site was literally right next to two other RV sites, and the RVs were about 20 yards from our tents, and definitely NOT scenic. The porta john was right next to our site, so close we could smell it if the wind favored it. It was also quite full. The website makes it sound and look like all these attractions are at your fingertips, but in reality the only thing within hiking distance is the creek on Phase 2 and 3, down the road. It is a nice activity if you are into hiking a creek and are wearing water shoes. My kids loved it. The water is frigid cold, but bearable, and there are small pools here and there for the kids to wade across and not get completely soaked and freezing. Within a short drive (10-15 minutes from Phase 1,2, or 3) you have the Freedom Falls and Rockway Tunnel, both beautiful places you definitely must visit if you're in the region. Once thru the tunnel, take the immediate right and take the dirt path: it will take you to the Allegheny River, where it's divided into two streams. It's perfect for the kids to play in the water, as the current and depth are not strong, but just enough to still have fun and not be in danger of being swept away. Mind you the river was low when we got there: I would be cautious if the river was high. Take flashlight and a light jacket for the tunnel: it will be chilly and very dark. Unfortunately there's no access to the river anywhere else from camp that I could find. There's an entry point to a trail at the west end of the Kennerdell Bridge, leading to Fisherman's Cove, Dennison Run, and something else I don't remember. We didn't take it for very long, but there was no easy access to the river from there that I could see (but I didn't take it all the way down, just for a half mile at most). Back to the campground, there is non-potable water available for washing (bring a bucket), and that was helpful. You will have to haul your trash away with you, so keep that in mind as there are no dumpsters in the campground. Paul, our neighbor and super-friendly and helpful all-around stays in the camp most of the year, and was the highlight of our campsite experience: he was very knowledgeable on all things Kennerdell and pointed us where to go and what to do. At $20/night for primitive camping, I thought it was overpriced for what you got, but apparently prices in that region are quite high. I would not go back to that campground again, as it is not as scenic or secluded from other sites as they made it sound. Tammy - Office Manager - came to lead us into the campground and show us where our site was, collected the $40 for two nights, and offered no receipt. Checking out time was very flexible: "I don't care when you leave on Thursday" she said, apparently there was no rush, but we left before noon.

I like this place so much that I rent TWO annual sites there. Lack of toilets does not bother me as I have trailers. Lack of showers does not bother me as I have trailers. Had nothing to offer. Disgusting porta potty! Roads are so bad. No bathrooms. Stayed a few nights but the water was so red. They do not clean the place at all. Couldn't even have a fire. Prices change whenever the managers need more money. They are a rip off!
