Great place to boat, jet ski, fish or just hang out. The water and grounds are very clean and it is fairly calm. One side is great for kayakers, paddle boarders and motorless boats and the other is great if you want to kick it up some in a speed boat or jet ski. We go here often because it is so close to home and we enjoy it so much.

We spent the weekend at Bush Recreation Area at Loyalhanna Lake in early September. It was our first time visiting the lake and campground. We enjoyed exploring the lake and Loyalhanna Creek. The creek was nice and we were able to canoe up stream with ease. Caught a few perch and seen some wildlife. We will definitely be back.

The lake is actually pretty big, and seemed really clean. The boat ramp area was kind of shallow, so if you have a big boat your going to have to back into the water for sure. We found a nice area on shore way in the back and beach our jet ski there. We set up a portable hammock and relaxed, while watching others play around in the water. The fishing was not good that day, but it was mid day and usually that's never a good time to fish anyways. We will definitely be returning here soon. Update 8/17/2020 We went here again today with our jet ski. The lake is pretty nice, and large enough to have alot of fun. However BE CAREFUL on the South side of the lake, the water depth becomes SUPER SHALLOW very quickly. We ended up running a ground, and bogged out the jet ski. There are no clear marking's to warn you that the water literally becomes a foot deep out of nowhere. I even saw a kayak run a ground far off the shoreline, which was crazy. Also the fishing SUCKS here, we tried everything and didn't even get a bite. I believe that this lake has SO much fishing pressure that it's basically fished out. I would NOT recommend fishing here, but boating is fun long as you stay on the Northern side.

If your looking g for a fishing spot follow signs to boat launch so you can walk along the shore. If you go to the office there are 2 fishing trails that are suitable only if you are a Billy goat. If you are carrying tackle boxes and coolers just forget it and go to the boat launch area.

Really pleasant day at the lake. We visited the dam and the recreation area to fish. The shore was easy to cast from and there were some structures I thought might be good for fish to hide in that I angled for. Great place to launch a boat to fish the other transition areas and coves.

I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere at Loyalhanna. There is no drinking so no chance of hearing loud out of control partying at the lake usually. If someone is being drunkinly loud the campground host or 911 from what I've heard makes it a easy fix but I've never had to deal with it. On occasion across the lake you will hear loud cars and people it usually doesn't last long. Fishing is hit and miss people are always out on boats and kayaks. There is a small boat launch and ramp. The lake does have areas of debree from trees etc especially when the dam releases water. You can go quite aways in kayak if you want to. If you are tent camping I would recommend being on a sight that has plenty of shade for hot days. The bathrooms and shower are cleaned in the mornings but through the day people track in and out. Its a bathroom with a shower at a campground so it does get a little messy but not gross. Everyone I have encountered is nice and easy to talk to. Campsites are keept nice each with fire pit, table, pole with hook on it for trash bag or whatever.
