I used to hike Big Frog from this trailhead when I was in my 20's frequently. Now in my 40's, decided to pay the area a visit today. Very quiet and primitive just like back then...best thing about coming here now is the Forest Service had a ton of work done to the road leading up to this spot. Now it's not an issue at all getting in here, it used to be very bad. Props to them for getting it done!... I used to hike Big Frog from this trailhead when I was in my 20's frequently. I will say though, if you plan to camp at this Hemp Top trailhead, consider bringing a chainsaw. Any inclement weather that moves in is bound to knock a tree or two down. You could be trapped for some time with no phone service. At least bring a big sharp ax...it's a long way to get out of here.

If I could think one one word , other than beautiful to describe Big Frog .. it would be HOG . Big Freaking Hog . If you're familiar with Hogzilla , I believe I met his cousin . Big Frog is fantastic , and when you learn the Forest Service roads , you can be at the river in short time . But really , there are some fantastic hog [ an other animals / game ] there . Of course the hiking is wonderful... If I could think one one word , other than beautiful to describe Big Frog .. it would be HOG . Big Freaking Hog . They don't have to be 4 wheel drive , just a sturdy suspension and some clearance . I't a lovely place and it backs up to the Cohutta Wilderness which is massive
