Awesome, rugged, dusty, primitive desert campsite. A true south Texas gem. Magnificently dark skies. Secluded, quiet, full of wildlife. You need to have a $12 permit per person but use of the campsite is free. Registration at park entrance required. Permits not sold on site and there is no cell service whatsoever from any carrier.

This place is crazy! Probably will be coming back often. No showers so bring your own! Only vault toilet was full so also recommend bring your own there too. Had all kinds of fun camping & driving around here.

Stayed one night nice place primative camping no water or electric at campsites. You will need a limited use permit or the public hunting permit from Tpwd to register for camping at the self register station first building coming into park. Be mindful of hunters

Note that they are current closed for special hunting or something. Signs and website don't bother to make it clear. You have to "hunt" for the current status and even then you don't know till you get to the gate. Very poor customer, ie tax payer, service.
