Excellent two nights of dog friendly camping. We had site 14 in Grassy Banks campground. Close to river and mostly separate from other sites. Sun shelter was nice. We hiked in the early morning. Hoodoos then Closed Canyon. Los Burros Road was also available we just the eastern spur there's a cool adobe structure at that end. Overall park was great, we went to Fort Leaton one day which was good. V... Excellent two nights of dog friendly camping. We had site 14 in Grassy Banks campground. Very quiet campground with great stars.

Besides being extremely remote, right next to the National Park, and offering exciting offroad experiences, one of the highlights of the trip for me was the friendliness of the ranger we spoke to at the visitor center. Cody Edwards gave us great advice and accommodated changing our camping reservation. The park interior consists of several old ranch roads where vehicles with 4wd and high clearance are recommended. I highly recommend you use the discovery map from the parks website to navigate instead of the free one they give you, as it provides detailed legend of which roads require 2wd vs 4wd, as well as distances. If you decide to bring a full-size pickup truck like I did, please understand that some roads are extremely prone to scratching the paint on your vehicle. After going down Guale road and back, my truck unfortunately will have to be repainted. Nonetheless, this park provides amazing views and experiences. I will definitely be returning (and avoiding Guale road).

We got a late start so we didn’t get to travel far into the park. Next time we’ll plan better. We saw the Hoodoos and had a quick walkthrough of Fort Leaten SHS nearby (had 7 min before closing)!

Beautiful park. Drove the highway 170 from Lajhitas towards Presidio. Some of the most beautiful views. Stopped and did the Hoodoos trail. Absolutely beautiful views.

Highly recommend this State Park. Closed Canyon Trail is awesome. The grandkids loved it. There is lots of access to the Rio Grande also.
