San Marcos is popular during peak season. Reserve 2-4 weeks in advance for weekends and holidays.
Most parks have check-in after 1:00 PM and check-out by 11:00 AM. Call ahead if you'll arrive late.
Texas weather can change quickly. Pack layers and check the forecast for San Marcos.
Don't miss local attractions near San Marcos. Ask the camp host for hidden gems and trails.

Interesting location with river access (water was kinda scummy, but that's not on them) but basically NO SERVICE. No real directions when you arrive, trash/junk boats all over the place, unlevel campspots, so don't try a campervan without jacks. The bathrooms are pretty nasty, nothing drains correctly, the hosts were unreachable, which we found out after being accosted by hobos who skateboarded to... Came by bugging us for beer and cigarettes at 9am. We have planned to stay for multiple nights and left after one.

Good spot to launch your water craft and paddle down river. The folks at Spencer's will follow you in your car to staples dam and take you back to do your paddle for a small fee. Really good when you dont have 2 cars and need a shuttle.

Horrible nasty bathrooms. Trash at campsites. In the couple of places you can actually get into river, trash everywhere from trashy people who don't care . Still should be cleaned up by owners. Could only shuttle 2 people at a time. Put in for kayaking sucks.

The owner was very accommodating and very welcoming! It was my first time visiting and wasnt sure how to go about renting kayaks but he made the process seemless! I paid $35 per kayak and the trip itself is about 3 miles long give or take. I cannot emphasize this enough: BRING LOTS OF WATER!!!! Since it was my first time, I didnt realize how long the trip was but I warned you! It is excellent for... The owner was very accommodating and very welcoming! It has a few baby rapids in the begining but is smooth sailing from there! We saw some cows along the river too!

Jack was very very nice and helpful! I spoke to him on the phone and in person a few times to get information on their place and fees since they don’t have a website. He was very kind and friendly. The river was running slow so it took us 4 hrs with paddling the majority of the way. $35 for single kayaks and I think $70 for tandem. Camping and restrooms were temporarily closed due to COVID but it... Jack was very very nice and helpful! Camping and restrooms were temporarily closed due to COVID but it would be a nice quiet place one it’s fully open. Great location and lots of shade. This is not a fancy 5star commercial location. It’s a mom n pop (actually mom n son) place that is convenient with nice people.
