About Lost Alaskan RV Park

Campground in Texas.

Nestled in the heart of the Big Bend region, Lost Alaskan RV Park offers RV travelers a unique gateway to one of Texas's most dramatic and remote landscapes. Located in Alpine, a charming small town that serves as the cultural and geographical hub of far West Texas, this park provides the perfect base for exploring some of the state's most stunning natural attractions.

Alpine itself is a vibrant community with a rich artistic heritage and welcoming atmosphere. The town features excellent local restaurants, galleries, and shops that reflect the authentic character of the region. As the home of Sul Ross State University, Alpine maintains a youthful energy while preserving its historic roots. The elevation here, sitting at over 4,200 feet above sea level, means pleasantly cool summers compared to lower desert elevations, making it an ideal destination during the hottest months of the year.

The real magic of staying at Lost Alaskan RV Park lies in proximity to Big Bend National Park, one of America's most extraordinary and least crowded national parks. This sprawling wilderness encompasses over 800,000 acres of rugged canyons, river valleys, and desert landscape. Visitors can hike world-class trails, paddle the Rio Grande, explore dramatic geological formations, and experience some of the darkest night skies in the continental United States. The park is renowned for its exceptional stargazing opportunities, drawing astronomy enthusiasts from around the globe.

Beyond Big Bend, the surrounding region offers countless adventures. The scenic Davis Mountains rise dramatically nearby, offering cooler elevations, hiking trails, and the Fort Davis National Historic Site. Ghost towns and mining history dot the landscape, telling stories of the Old West. Scenic drives through the desert reveal ever-changing vistas of mountains, mesas, and desert flora. Birdwatchers flock to the area to spot numerous species, particularly during migration seasons.

This destination appeals to outdoor enthusiasts, nature photographers, history buffs, and anyone seeking authentic desert wilderness experiences away from crowded tourist areas. Whether you're planning an extended exploration of Big Bend or using Alpine as a jumping-off point for adventures throughout the region, Lost Alaskan RV Park offers a welcoming home base in one of Texas's most compelling and unforgettable landscapes.

And I was told by other campers that there’s really no friendly place in town that will give you quarters. They could stand to put down more gravel. We were there after a rain and we were camping in the mud. We also topped up our propane. The gentleman who filled it was very nice, but he either wasn’t paying attention, or didn’t know what he was doing. I was allowed to stay in the van which is contrary to safety standards, then he proceeded to fill the tank… full. Driving down the road, we could smell propane. Propane was coming out the overfill valve which is very dangerous. We ended up at the propane company next door to Lost Alaska. They tried to bleed the excess off, but after 45 minutes the gauge still read full. A technician used some attachment that would bleed the excess more quickly. So we ended up with less propane than we had to begin with, and spent hours dealing with this dangerous situation.

Nice, quiet RV park offering level sites and quality amenities. Lots of shade, too. Convenient to downtown without being too close. Be sure to visit Baker’s Dozen donut shop about 1.5 miles away; best croissant donuts anywhere and just a quick run down street from Lost Alaskan!

No sense in repeating all the positive comments others have made. We came here for an overnight stay and ended up staying an additional night. We used this as a home base for other visits. Staff and facilities are excellent. This will be a highly recommended camp ground for our friends. You’ll love it!

Mixed feelings! WATCH OUT… Very nice staff, huge pull thru sites, clean bathrooms/showers, awesome dog park…. BUT- they say they give a First Responder discount and this isn’t true. There is no choice to apply that type of discount online (there is a spot for a discounts for veterans and Good Sam members). They don't have a rec room, they have an 'Adult' room. Place is not child friendly. The reason I won't be back is that everywhere you look in the park the owners are trying to shove their religion in your face.
