About Southern Star RV Park

Campground in Texas.

Southern Star RV Park sits in Van Horn, Texas, a charming desert town that serves as an ideal stopping point for RV travelers exploring West Texas and beyond. Located at 1605 West Broadway Street, this park offers convenient access to one of the region's most scenic and historic areas, where wide open landscapes meet genuine frontier character.

Van Horn is a classic Texas crossroads town positioned along I-10, making it perfect for travelers heading to or from major destinations like El Paso, Big Bend National Park, or the Davis Mountains. The town itself carries authentic Old West heritage, with a slower pace that invites you to step out of your RV and experience genuine Texas hospitality. The surrounding landscape features dramatic desert vistas with distant mountains creating stunning photo opportunities throughout the day, especially during sunrise and sunset when the light paints the landscape in warm, golden tones.

The Van Horn area is a gateway to some of Texas's most incredible natural attractions. Big Bend National Park, one of the largest and most remote national parks in the country, lies within reasonable driving distance and offers world-class hiking, river adventures along the Rio Grande, and some of the darkest night skies in the state. The Davis Mountains nearby provide cooler elevations and scenic drives, while smaller natural attractions like Balmorhea State Park offer swimming and geological wonders.

For those interested in history and culture, Van Horn provides access to old trading posts, historic ghost towns, and remnants of the Old West that tell the story of this rugged frontier region. The town itself hosts a welcoming community atmosphere where you can experience authentic small-town Texas life, grab a meal at local establishments, and chat with locals who know the region well.

This location appeals to travelers seeking a peaceful desert experience, nature enthusiasts heading to Big Bend or the Davis Mountains, retirees enjoying leisurely travels, and anyone wanting to experience authentic West Texas away from busy metropolitan areas. The park serves as an excellent base for exploring or simply a comfortable overnight stop on a cross-country journey.

Very nice RV Park with a great shower. The owner/staff was very helpful. Southern Star will be on my short list when traveling in the area.

Staff were friendly. The amenities listed are lacking and need maintenance. The dog park was deep powdery dirt with 1 sun baked wood bench. The park was quiet, with the exception of trains throughout the night. The park was clean, safe but dusty. $50 per night was a good price. I would stay again only for the one night while passing thru.

This is pretty much an empty gravel lot, with picnic tables at most sites. All utilities seemed to work well. Dog park is just a fenced in dirt area, but it's clean, no goat heads. Easy walk to some restaurants and other services. When we drove up, the lady came outside to meet us and show us our site. Very pleasant person. Very pleasant person. We didn't need to use the laundry room, so I can't speak for that. Very easy off and back on the freeway, diesel and grocery nearby. One drawback is the train tracks across the road. It was hot out, though, so our ac drowned out the noise at night.

Nice clean RV park. All mechanicals are in working order. Location is convenient to I-10 and locate. Check-in was simple, and site was easy to find. Very level, clean and maintained.
