About Hoop Lake Trailhead

No fire restrictions are in place at this time.

Hoop Lake Trailhead offers a authentic high-country camping experience in the heart of Utah's stunning wilderness. Situated at elevation, this public campground serves as an ideal base camp for outdoor enthusiasts seeking to explore some of the region's most pristine natural landscapes. The setting is perfect for those who want to escape the crowds while maintaining access to excellent recreational opportunities.

The campground's primary appeal lies in its position as a gateway to exceptional hiking and backcountry exploration. Trails radiating from the area showcase Utah's diverse terrain, from alpine meadows to rugged mountain vistas. Whether you're an experienced backpacker planning multi-day treks or a casual day-hiker looking to stretch your legs, the immediate surroundings provide multiple options for adventure. The high elevation means cooler temperatures during summer months, making it a refreshing retreat from lower desert areas.

The landscape surrounding Hoop Lake Trailhead embodies the raw beauty that defines Utah's interior. Coniferous forests provide shade and a sense of seclusion, while distant peaks frame the horizon. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with chances to spot mule deer, elk, and various bird species throughout the seasons. Photography enthusiasts will find abundant subjects, from wildflower displays in summer to dramatic cloud formations that build in afternoon hours.

This location appeals particularly to self-sufficient travelers who appreciate minimal-impact camping and outdoor recreation. It's ideal for those seeking solitude and natural beauty over developed amenities. Families with older children who enjoy hiking will find it rewarding, as will retirees exploring Utah's backcountry. Off-season visits offer their own appeal, with fewer visitors and peaceful forest conditions.

The region's geographic position places visitors within reasonable driving distance of other Utah attractions, making it a strategic stopover for longer road trips. The campground provides a genuine connection to the landscape, offering the kind of authentic outdoor experience that draws people to RV travel in the first place.

Our favorite place to camp. No phone service. Good hiking and fishing. There is a good variety of fish too. A little spendy for a place that has no hook-ups for campers (in my opinion). There are two sections to camp. One straight ahead and then one off to the right. Both have access to the lake. I love all the trees.

We even witnessed people using chainsaws to gain more room. You can only imagine the stumps left behind! Camp host apologized and stated it is happening to alot of people. This campground is very tight and full of trees that there is not much room to get in and out of.We were lucky to get turned around by the boat dock. This is the size of trailer that they got in there...not sure how they will get it out.

Hoop lake is beautiful and fishing is always good, however the campground has been neglected, camp spots are no longer level from years of erosion, fire pits are rusted out of the ground, and the road into the campground hasn’t been graded in years resulting in huge pit holes that you can barely get your trailer thru!! The water has been turned off ! The bathrooms are clean and the camp hosts are... The campground is beautiful. The camp hosts were amazing very friendly and always taking care of the campground/campers. They always made sure the bathrooms were very clean for campers. We saw them several times outside cleaning up campsites as well. They definitely deserve a 5 star rating for their hard work and kindness. However the campsites were very small and unlevel. We stayed 5/27/2024. The road to the campground was like 13 miles of dirt roads that got progressively worse the closer you got. Toilets were locked and water was not on yet but it was a very peaceful and beautiful place.
