About Upheaval Bottom

Campground in Utah.

Upheaval Bottom stands as one of Utah's most captivating public campgrounds, offering adventurers and nature enthusiasts a gateway to some of the American West's most dramatic landscapes. Situated in a region renowned for its stunning geological formations and outdoor recreation opportunities, this campground provides an ideal base for exploring the unique character of southeastern Utah.

The surrounding area is a paradise for hikers, mountain bikers, and photographers who appreciate raw, untamed wilderness. The distinctive red rock formations and desert terrain create an ever-changing canvas of colors throughout the day, from brilliant reds and oranges at sunrise to deep purples and shadows at sunset. The landscape tells the story of millions of years of geological processes, with towering buttes, narrow canyons, and intricate rock formations visible from various vantage points throughout the region.

Upheaval Bottom's location makes it particularly attractive for those seeking access to some of Utah's most memorable trails and outdoor experiences. The public campground atmosphere tends to draw a mix of visitors, from seasoned RV travelers to tent campers and adventure seekers. The relatively uncrowded nature of many public campgrounds means you can experience genuine solitude while surrounded by spectacular natural beauty, a rare commodity in today's travel landscape.

The high desert climate of the region offers mild to warm temperatures during much of the year, making spring and fall particularly pleasant times to visit. Winter transforms the landscape into a quieter, more contemplative setting, while summer visitors can enjoy long daylight hours for extended exploration. The clear night skies away from major light pollution make this an excellent destination for stargazing and appreciating the cosmos.

This area appeals strongly to outdoor enthusiasts who prioritize access to natural wonders, hiking trails, and backcountry exploration over developed resort amenities. Whether you're planning a weekend escape or an extended adventure, Upheaval Bottom provides a launching point for discovering some of Utah's most iconic and lesser-known natural attractions. The sense of adventure and exploration that defines this region makes it a memorable destination for RV travelers seeking authentic Western experiences.

This campground is conveniently located off the highway, but the road noise isn't too bad. The manager is sweet and helpful. It's clean and well-maintained. We have a 45-foot motorhome and are pulling a 20-foot box trailer. We were able to pull into a pull-through site without disconnecting. It was a great stopover that we needed badly after the long drive through Mohab. The sites are nice and wide. I took a walk up the street and met some friendly horses. One even gave me a kiss.

This park has a very nice laundry and bathroom showers are together which is also very nice. Great dog park. But the highway noise where we were was horrendous. LOTS of 18 wheelers using Jake brakes right in front of the park. But we will stay again if we come this way again.

This park is a perfect stop for some quiet time. We received a warm greeting and were told about the town and restaurant choices. I had a need to do some laundry and found the best machines on our 6 week trip. Nice, new GE products at the cost of $3 per load paid at the office. No quarters and no credit card. No need to worry about whether your clothes will be dry at the end of the cycle. - The ba... This park is a perfect stop for some quiet time. Nice, new GE products at the cost of $3 per load paid at the office. No quarters and no credit card. No need to worry about whether your clothes will be dry at the end of the cycle. - The bathrooms/showers are private and super clean. I appreciated the paper towel dispensers as opposed to the air dryer option so I could clean the sink after myself and dry my shampoo and soap bottles off without a wet mess. There’s a nice little dog park and some cool looking rentals on the property. - Our space was perfectly level and with the mature trees we had nice shade. - We did use an extended for the wifi which gave us an excellent connection and streamed without issue. The property is all gravel and some thoughtless people drive too fast, but that’s not the parks fault. You won’t regret staying here. We got 2 nights for what we often pay for 1 night at other locations.

We tent camped here whilst travelling through on our bicycles. There are nice grassy pitches set aside for tents. Cute horses behind the pitches too! You could hear a little road noise overnight but nothing some ear plugs couldn’t solve. The bathrooms were great - probably the best we’ve encountered over the five weeks of our camping so far! Highly recommend.
