About ALBION BASIN

Federal campground in Utah.

Nestled in the heart of Utah's stunning Wasatch Mountains, Albion Basin offers RV campers a remarkable escape into high-altitude wilderness. This National Forest camping area sits at elevation, providing visitors with crisp mountain air, sweeping vistas, and a genuine connection to nature that feels worlds away from everyday life. The basin itself is a geological marvel, surrounded by rugged peaks and pristine alpine meadows that transform throughout the seasons with wildflowers in summer and dramatic snow-covered landscapes in winter.

The camping experience here appeals to travelers seeking authentic mountain adventures without sacrificing accessibility. Whether you're an experienced RV enthusiast or a family discovering mountain camping for the first time, Albion Basin welcomes you into a landscape that rewards exploration and encourages relaxation. The elevation provides relief from summer heat, making this an ideal destination during hot months when lower-elevation campgrounds become unbearably warm. The cooler temperatures create perfect conditions for hiking, photography, and simply enjoying the outdoors without battling excessive heat.

The surrounding area offers exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities. Numerous trails wind through the basin and surrounding peaks, ranging from gentle walks suitable for families to challenging hikes for more experienced adventurers. The pristine natural environment provides outstanding opportunities for wildlife observation, wildflower photography during peak season, and stargazing thanks to minimal light pollution. The dramatic mountainous terrain creates stunning scenery in every direction, making this location particularly appealing to photographers and nature enthusiasts.

The location serves as an excellent base for exploring greater Utah. You're positioned to experience some of the region's most celebrated natural attractions while enjoying a quieter, more intimate camping experience in the mountains. The combination of accessibility via RV and genuine wilderness experience makes Albion Basin a cherished destination among those seeking mountain camping that honors both comfort and conservation. Absolutely beautiful place for portraits! End of July-Early August is typically when the flowers are in full bloom. Don't forget the bug spray!

Beautiful, quiet campground. Each site has a plastic dipped metal picnic table, a fire ring, and a parking pad. The ground is packed gravel and tree needles, so not much chance of mud. Our site, #23, has space for 3 tents. There are no hookups and just pit toilets, but the pit toilets are the nicest I've come across. Enclosed in a nice modern building, and they don't smell. The campground host lights a scented candle inside the toilet building at night. The road through the campground and leading to it has many rills and washouts, so drive slowly. Each is marked by orange cones to give you a heads up. I personally would not want to drive a camper through here, or try to park it at a site, but we saw several smaller campers and camper trailers here. Beautiful scenery! FYI- you might not want to pitch your tent under trees that have pinecone bits underneath where squirrels have been eating. You might get woken up earlier than you want by pinecones being dropped on your tent! Cute little squirrels, though.

This was a beautiful hike, not too hard, a bit steep in some spots, but still really nice. Going in August, you don't have as many flowers out, early summer there are more flowers and it's really colorful which makes for an enjoyable hike. The lake was beautiful as well, great view from both above looking down at it and when you go down and hike around it.
