About Ferron Reservoir Campground Ferron North

Federal campground in Utah.

Nestled in the heart of central Utah's stunning landscape, Ferron Reservoir Campground Ferron North offers an authentic mountain camping experience for those seeking to escape into nature. This National Forest campground sits along the scenic Ferron Reservoir, where the waters reflect towering pines and rugged canyon walls, creating a peaceful backdrop for your RV adventure. The setting feels wonderfully remote yet accessible, making it an ideal destination for families, couples, and solo travelers looking to disconnect from the hustle of everyday life.

The surrounding area showcases some of Utah's most impressive natural beauty. The Manti-La Sal National Forest provides endless opportunities for exploration, with hiking trails ranging from leisurely walks to challenging mountain treks. The nearby Castle Valley offers breathtaking scenic drives, while the remote canyons and ridges attract outdoor enthusiasts from across the region. This is genuine high-desert mountain country, where you'll experience dramatic sunsets and star-filled nights that remind you why camping under the open sky matters.

The reservoir itself becomes the centerpiece of your stay. Whether you're interested in fishing for trout, paddling a canoe, or simply enjoying the tranquility of waterside camping, Ferron Reservoir provides a serene setting. The cooler mountain elevation makes it particularly appealing during summer months when lower-elevation areas become uncomfortably hot. Wildlife viewing is excellent throughout the year, and the area's natural quiet creates an atmosphere of genuine restoration.

The campground draws visitors who appreciate undeveloped natural spaces. This isn't a resort-style destination with extensive amenities, but rather a place where the landscape itself is the main attraction. Nearby communities provide services and supplies when needed, while the campground itself offers a peaceful base for exploring some of Utah's least crowded outdoor areas. Whether you're a seasoned RV camper seeking solitude or families wanting to introduce children to mountain camping, Ferron Reservoir Campground Ferron North delivers an authentic Utah mountain experience.

I recently visited Ferron Reservoir Campground for a Young Men’s camping trip, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience. The reservoir itself was a highlight—it gave us plenty of opportunities to play, paddle board, and kayak. The water was definitely cold ❄️, but after a few seconds, it became refreshing and energizing. We even managed to catch a pretty decent-sized fish, which added to the adventure. The surrounding scenery is absolutely stunning. The sunsets over the water and hills were breathtaking and added the perfect ending to each day. 🌅 We didn’t see the camp hosts during our stay—maybe we just missed them—but they were clearly keeping things in check. One of the restrooms near our site ran out of toilet paper, but it was restocked later that same day, which we appreciated. Cell service is very limited, but in a good way. You can find a few sweet spots that get one or two bars, which is just enough to stay connected if needed—without getting sucked into endless scrolling. It let us stay present and enjoy the calm of nature. It’s also super dog-friendly. Our dog had a blast splashing around in the river, hanging out by the fire, and making friends with the neighbor pups. 🐕 The drive took me about 3.5 hours, but honestly, it was well worth it. The peace, fun, and memories made this trip something I’ll carry with me for a long time.

Tucked away high in the Manti Lasal mountains, Ferron Reservoir Campground is just lovely! The wildflowers were in full bloom during our stay and surround the reservoir and campground. The reservoir is a short walk from most of the campsites with some having lake views. Unlike many lakeside campgrounds, Ferron Reservoir was not windy at all, making kayaking really enjoyable. The water is so clear... Tucked away high in the Manti Lasal mountains, Ferron Reservoir Campground is just lovely! Unlike many lakeside campgrounds, Ferron Reservoir was not windy at all, making kayaking really enjoyable. The water is so clear, and while we didn't fish, we saw some pretty decent sized fish. Literally millions of Dragonflies were hatching around the shore and appeared like a ring of blue from a short distance. Amazing! Word of warning - Google maps gives directions to this campground that are not advisable. It takes you over a very high mountain pass with very steep drop-offs and a couple of spots where parts of the road have fallen away. The safer route is through the town of Ferron and then up Ferron Canyon, past Millsite State Park and Willow Lake. You will have to travel about 22 miles on a dirt road, parts of which are a little washboardy and have some dips here and there, but is overall a pretty decent road. The reservoir and campground were definitely worth the journey!

This was what I imagine when I want to go camping in the forest. The north loop was a little busy with a number of people in trailers and lots of pets. We were lucky enough to be in the south loop with only 2 other campers. The road was very well kept in the campground, and each site was well maintained. There is plenty of wildlife, a nice quiet lake, plenty of ATV trails, and the weather was perfect for an early July camp out! NOTE: I would strongly recommend taking the road from Ferron into the campground. Google maps suggested taking Manti Canyon, and while it was also a beautiful drive, the road was just larger than an ATV trail, and was littered with large rocks. I heard the road from Gunnison isn't as bad, but for a vehicle towing a trailer the Ferron road is best.

Such a special place! This campground is clean and well-attended. There are nicely maintained fire pits and picnic tables. Each spot has a good amount of shade. The reservoir is great for kayaking and fishing!

There is a nice nature hike with lots of interpretive signs with interesting information. This hike doesn't seem very popular though. It looked to me like most of the people who come here come with ohv's. That is the only reason I don't give 5 stars. The ohv's disturb the peace of the location. If you come here make sure to do some star gazing. You can see them really well here!
