About MACKINAW

Federal campground in Utah.

Nestled in the heart of Utah's stunning National Forest landscape, Mackinaw offers RV campers a genuine escape into nature without sacrificing accessibility. This national forest campground provides an authentic outdoor experience where towering pines create a natural canopy, and the crisp mountain air invites you to slow down and reconnect with what matters most.

The setting is genuinely special for those seeking a balance between adventure and comfort. The surrounding terrain features dramatic rock formations, dense forests, and scenic vistas that showcase why Utah's national forests are treasured by outdoor enthusiasts. The elevation and forest cover keep things pleasantly cool, making it an excellent choice during warmer months when lower elevation destinations become uncomfortably hot. Early mornings bring wildlife viewing opportunities, with elk and deer commonly spotted by early risers, while evenings reward visitors with clear starry skies perfect for reflection around a campfire.

For those interested in exploration, the location provides easy access to hiking trails ranging from gentle nature walks to more challenging backcountry routes. The national forest setting means you're surrounded by undeveloped land, yet the campground itself offers the essential facilities RV travelers need. The proximity to various trailheads makes Mackinaw an excellent base camp for day adventures. Whether you want to tackle a full day hike or enjoy a leisurely afternoon walk through the forest, the options are readily available.

The campground attracts a wonderful community of nature lovers, from families seeking a peaceful vacation away from screens to serious outdoor adventurers planning their next wilderness expedition. The high 4.6 rating from nearly 80 reviews speaks to the consistent quality and welcoming atmosphere visitors experience here. Photographers find exceptional opportunities in the changing light filtered through the pines and across the dramatic landscape. Whether you're looking for a quiet retreat, an outdoor adventure base, or simply a place to park your RV under towering trees and clear skies, Mackinaw delivers a memorable Utah forest experience.

We love the Mackinaw campground. Karen has been our host for the last few years She is the best host we have every had and we look forward to seeing her when we go. She is very kind and friendly and makes check in easy for such a crowd as ours. She works hard to keep the area and bathrooms clean. We appreciate all she does for others. We have been going to Mackinaw for over 50 years for our family reunion and take up most of the campground. The ease of getting to the lake is awesome for fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding and just plain fun.

We just spent two days at Mackinaw campground at fish lake, and fish lake national Park. It was absolutely beautiful and peaceful, there were no real critters to bother you and very minimal bugs. The leaves are just starting to change, in a week or two it will be incredibly beautiful, though I think the campground shut down September 15th. We stayed in the southernmost campground sites one through... We just spent two days at Mackinaw campground at fish lake, and fish lake national Park. We stayed in the southernmost campground sites one through 14 of Mackinaw. The bathrooms are wonderful, and they even have paid showers, that are heated up and very clean, it's $0.50 a minute.

Best camping around! Karen is the best camp host I've met in such a long time. Very friendly, super helpful. She gave us some great tips on which lodge had the best resources and lovely and less crowded spots on the lake within walking distance. She keeps the bathrooms super clean and writes the funniest bathroom guidelines. Will absolutely stay here again.

Great campground! I highly recommend. $20 a night for a regular camp with bathrooms, tables and showers. It is just a walk across the street to Fish Lake. Within 1/2 mile to the restaurant (that is actually open) and the lodge (opposite direction) that has ice cream, some groceries, fishing/camping supplies, etc. The camp hosts are really nice and help you check in, can supply you with firewoo... (1 bundle is plenty for a night, they are large bundles. ) I went and enjoyed the clear skies for the perseid meteor shower happening at the time.
