About Painted Hills RV Park

Campground in Utah.

Nestled in the scenic red rock country of southwestern Utah, Painted Hills RV Park offers travelers an ideal basecamp for exploring some of the most visually stunning landscapes in America. Located in Parowan, this RV park sits in a region famous for dramatic geological formations, vibrant desert vistas, and outdoor adventures that range from leisurely scenic drives to challenging hiking expeditions.

Parowan itself is a charming small town with a rich pioneer heritage, serving as a gateway to multiple national parks and monuments within reasonable driving distance. The park's location provides convenient access to some of Utah's most celebrated natural attractions. Cedar Breaks National Monument, featuring a stunning amphitheater of colored cliffs and evergreen forests, lies just a short drive away. The striking red rock formations of nearby areas offer endless photography opportunities, particularly during sunrise and sunset when the light transforms the landscape into brilliant shades of orange, red, and purple.

The surrounding area is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. Hiking trails of varying difficulty levels wind through canyons and across plateaus, offering everything from family-friendly walks to more strenuous backcountry treks. The region's elevation provides relief from the intense desert heat, making summer visits quite pleasant compared to lower desert areas. Winter transforms the landscape into something equally magical, with snow blanketing the higher elevations and creating postcard-perfect scenes.

Beyond the natural wonders, the area has a fascinating cultural and historical dimension. The region's mining heritage, evident in old structures and remnants scattered throughout the landscape, tells stories of Utah's past. Local attractions and small museums offer insight into the region's history and the lives of those who settled this dramatic terrain.

The Parowan area attracts a diverse range of visitors. Photographers come to capture the spectacular geology and light. Hikers and mountain bikers explore trails throughout the region. Families enjoy the small-town atmosphere combined with easy access to stunning natural scenery. Retirees appreciate the peaceful setting and abundant outdoor recreation without extreme crowds. Whether you're seeking adventure, natural beauty, peaceful relaxation, or a combination of these, this location offers a memorable RV camping experience in the heart of Utah's red rock country.

I was looking for a place to sleep and stumbled onto this beautiful RV resort. It’s super clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. Each spot is level, has a picnic table and hookups, and the sites are spacious and well laid out. It’s right by I-15 but surprisingly quiet and peaceful, and I felt very safe staying here as a solo female traveler. I only stayed for one night, but the pool and hot tub... I’ll definitely be back for a longer stay.

It’s far enough from the highway that the road noise is virtually unnoticeable. The name of the campground fits perfectly. The view is incredible in every direction. It’s about 25 minutes to Brian Head Ski resort. Plenty of other things to do in the area as well. Check in was a breeze. Very simple and they offer a first responder/military discount. The campground is laid out very well. All sites are pull through with plenty of space. I will say the larger rocks in the site are something I’ve never seen but manageable for sure. All sites are full hookup and easily accessible. I would maybe recommend a heater on the water spigot as we have been to other campgrounds that have provided that. The swimming pool was closed for the season but the hot tub was fantastic. It’s very large and our family of 5 had plenty of room. It even started snowing while we were in the hot tub. The bath/shower house was top notch. Best we’ve had on our trip so far. For merchandise they had several color options for insulated beanie hats and sweatshirts with a unique and simple design. The sweatshirts are comfortable and good quality and the beanie hats are so warm. Now, let’s talk about what makes this place what it is…the service. Sherri checked us in and responded very quickly with any questions we had. She had quarters pre counted and readily available for us to exchange for laundry and was quick to provide more when we ran out. She even turned the hot tub temperature up for us. The owner is an extremely kind and outgoing man. He stopped and chatted with us for a bit and was shoveling the snow off the sidewalks. He made sure we had everything we needed. He even was helping a couple set up their camper when they checked in. This is an absolutely fantastic place to stay. I can’t say enough good about this campground. I wish we would’ve stayed longer than we did. If we ever come out west again this will be a must stop for us.

The office and pool area are beautiful nicely kept and landscaped. The laundry area is very nice and clean as well as all the area around the office. The trees are all young and most of them have very few leaves or they’re dead. The main objection we have with the park was their camping sites which are covered with an inch and a half to 2 1/2 inch rock, which makes it very difficult to walk on, in fact dangerous. The park has taken it upon themselves to re-landscape about a third of their sites so that the rocks have been covered with a small pea gravel, which is easier to walk on. My suggestion would be that if you’re going to stay there, make sure and request a site that they have covered those large rubber rocks with the small Pea gravel so that it is easier to walk on. My wife twisted her ankle the first day we were there on the rocks.

Great RV Park! Clean, tidy, great bathrooms, wonderful dog park. Unfortunately, hot tub which we were very much looking forward to was down. Hopefully on our return trip hot tub will be up and running!
