As a wedding and elopement photographer, Dead Horse Point State Park is hands-down one of the most breathtaking elopement locations in Utah. The canyon overlooks create an epic, wide-open backdrop that makes every ceremony feel intimate yet cinematic at the same time. There’s something incredibly powerful about watching a couple exchange vows with the Colorado River winding below them. From a photography perspective, the light here is unreal. Golden hour wraps the red rock cliffs in warm tones, and sunsets feel dramatic without being harsh. Even midday can work beautifully thanks to the expansive views and natural contrast in the landscape. The scenery is so stunning and the environment does all the storytelling. What I especially love for micro weddings is how the space allows guests to feel present without distraction. The designated ceremony areas are easy to access, yet they still feel adventurous and secluded. Wind can be part of the experience (secure the veil!), but that movement often adds a cinematic, windswept feel to photos. For couples wanting bold landscapes, rich desert colors, and an unforgettable backdrop that feels both intimate and grand - Dead Horse Point is a dream location to photograph.

Dead Horse Point State Park – Nature’s Masterpiece Above the Canyon We visited Dead Horse Point State Park while exploring Canyonlands National Park, and the views were nothing short of breathtaking. Standing at the overlook, you truly appreciate the scale of nature, the dramatic canyons below look like giant sculptures carved patiently by the Colorado River over millions of years. One of the highlights was spotting the Potash Ponds from above, their striking colors creating a beautiful contrast against the deep red rock and winding river. It felt like looking at a natural work of art mixed with human-made patterns, all from an incredible vantage point. We also walked the Rim Trail, which was peaceful and scenic, offering continuous panoramic views at every turn. The trail was easy to enjoy while taking in the vast landscape, making it perfect for slowing down and soaking in the surroundings. Dead Horse Point State Park is a must-visit if you’re in the Moab area. The combination of sweeping views, dramatic canyon formations, and quiet trails makes it one of the most unforgettable viewpoints in Utah.

Great nearby detour and side trip if you are visiting the National Parks in the area! Lots of scenic hiking! Wear the correct shoes and bring water and a snack. Park the car and GO HIKE! Not as crowded as the Nationals. Some trails are REALLY quiet and peaceful! So cool! Be sure and take your trash back with you!

It has amazing views, a walking path and the gift shop has all kinds of goodies that aren't terribly expensive. Bathrooms are outside around the side of the building. After that follow 313 to the end. Here there are several places to stop and take photos. There is a building in the center with bathrooms in it. There are also several picnic shelters. You can also get married here. There are 5 different spots. We thought Cliff Side was the best but it was also the most difficult to get to and there is no wall just cliff so be careful especially with kids. There is also 25 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. I haven't tried them yet but when I do I will update this review. Have fun!

Definitely, this terrain hits different during sunset. Highly recommend visiting during sunset. You can drive to the Dead Horse Viewpoint after paying a fee at the visitor center. Or you can do a trail (West Rim or East Rim Trail) to the viewpoint.
