Clarksville is popular during peak season. Reserve 2-4 weeks in advance for weekends and holidays.
Most parks have check-in after 1:00 PM and check-out by 11:00 AM. Call ahead if you'll arrive late.
Virginia weather can change quickly. Pack layers and check the forecast for Clarksville.
Don't miss local attractions near Clarksville. Ask the camp host for hidden gems and trails.

Awesome riding there. We rode over 90 miles in 6 days. The people there are the nicest peeps we have ever met. Super accomodating. We will be back!!

Spent 4 nights there. Stalls are very roomy with stall mats and pole gates. 10x12’ if I had to guess (bigger than standard stalls). Initial shavings included. Clean barn, quiet, nice place. Enjoyed the trails (2 loops in pics, provided by campground) but TONS of other options and distances available. More maps at office. You could ride for days and not see the same trail twice. You could ride for days and not see the same trail twice. Campsites are a little close together and there is not a wash rack, but that’s not a deal breaker. I was impressed that the manure pile was emptied daily, so flies were minimal. Variety of trails- easy, flat to very challenging mountains. Office has a tack store and my kids loved the fridge on the porch offering ice cream bars and cokes on the honor system. :) Recommend!

Beautiful facility. Meticulously maintained. Friendly owners and staff. Cannot wait to go back again sometime and explore the areas we missed. p.s. If you like to run GPS, head to Fort Chiswell first. From there, map your way to Iron Mountain. It’s a much easier route with a trailer.

Occoneechee State Park is a great getaway if you enjoy nature, water views, and a quiet atmosphere. The park is scenic, relaxing, and perfect for camping, hiking, or just spending a day outside. Everything about the place makes it feel like a peaceful retreat from the normal rush of life. If you are anywhere near the area and want a beautiful place to recharge, this park is well worth the stop.

First time here and very impressed. Not only is the scenery in the park beautiful and well maintained but so are the bathrooms and other buildings etc. Camping lots are spacious and they offer lots of different options. They have several boat ramps, a splash pad for kids, playgrounds, trails, historical markers and more. Not sure what summer is like but it's the end of October and it's quiet a... They have wood and ice on site so very convenient. Fire rings are on a cement slab and camping lots have a nice packed gravel base.

The highways across from Buggs Island Lake is loud and constant. I barely slept That said the park is beautiful and extremely well maintained. It's perfect for fishing, boating, and horse trail riding ding. Panhandle Trail has what a moderate trail needs. Flat areas, twists, turns, gradients. It is an out and back trail. Young to about 20 year trees. You're in nature but the highway hum noise and Park road noise is also constant until you reach the equestrian center. I was to tired and not in the mood to take the additional 4 miles out to Beaver Pond overlook. Please go to the archery range. It is a quick loop and a few "what tha'?" moments. My favorite is 4. I will stay at a cabin next time and finish the trail.

Had fun camping here for 5 days...lots to do, lots of hiking trails. (There are chiggers, though, so wear long pants and sleeves) Place is full of history...There is even an extensive archery range. Although there really isn't a swimming beach, we thoroughly enjoyed the Splash Park! ❤️

My friend and I visited Occoneechee as part of the Trail & Paddle Quest offered by Virginia State Parks.
