About Hoh River Trust Campground

Campground in Washington.

Nestled in the heart of Washington's Olympic Peninsula, Hoh River Trust Campground offers RV travelers an extraordinary gateway to one of the Pacific Northwest's most pristine natural environments. This public campground serves as the perfect base for exploring the legendary Hoh Rain Forest, a temperate rainforest that draws visitors from around the world seeking an immersive experience in old-growth Douglas fir, western red cedar, and Sitka spruce forests.

The campground's location provides convenient access to the Hoh River Trail, one of the most popular hiking routes in Olympic National Park. This relatively gentle trail winds through enchanting forest landscapes, offering opportunities to spot Roosevelt elk, black bears, and a remarkable diversity of wildlife in their natural habitat. The river itself is a focal point for many visitors, whether you're interested in fishing for salmon and steelhead, simply enjoying the soothing sounds of flowing water, or photographing the misty, moss-covered landscape that defines this unique ecosystem.

What makes this area particularly special is how it showcases the raw power and beauty of the Pacific Northwest. The constant moisture and mild climate create an otherworldly landscape where every surface seems covered in vibrant green moss, and towering trees create a canopy that filters the light into a soft, ethereal glow. Even on rainy days—and there are many in this region—the experience remains magical rather than dreary, as the forest comes alive with the sounds and smells of a thriving ecosystem.

This campground attracts nature lovers, photographers, hikers, and families seeking to disconnect from the hustle of urban life. Birdwatchers will find abundant species throughout the seasons, while those interested in botany and forest ecology will marvel at the complex web of life supported by this rainforest environment. The campground serves as an ideal launching point for exploring the broader Olympic Peninsula, with coastal towns, other national park attractions, and scenic drives all within reasonable traveling distance.

Whether you're planning an extended stay or a quick escape into nature, Hoh River Trust Campground provides the base camp you need to fully experience one of America's most remarkable natural wonders.

Facilities are basic — vault toilets and cold-water sinks — which is totally expected for a national park. One nice surprise was the dedicated dishwashing station, which made things a bit easier. The campsites themselves are all located quite close to the internal campground road. There’s no through traffic, but the layout isn’t super cozy: our vehicle was half on the road, and the setup felt a bit cramped. That said, the real highlight is the proximity to the river — absolutely stunning. Being able to sit by the water and fall asleep to the sound of the river was truly special. A great spot if you value nature and river access over comfort or privacy.

We loved our campsite #14. It was near the river. Not river view but a small trail by the site lead you right to the river! We got lucky on a first come first serve.

Beautiful campground with lots space and privacy. The drive in to Hoh is beautiful as well. Walk the Hall of Mosses which is a short loop trail starting near the Visitors Center. Consider the river trail for at least a few miles out and back, The Hoh River is a beautiful blue Glacier color. In all this is a very spectacular place, get there early to avoid waiting and crowds.

One of the nicest campground. Great beautiful views, great for a hike, very clean, close to the river. We saw a couple of deers around our campsite and it’s very cool. There many great parking spots very close by if your group has more than two cars. Very clean washrooms. Recommend!
