About Howard Miller Steelhead Park

Campground in Washington.

Nestled along the scenic Skagit River in Rockport, Washington, Howard Miller Steelhead Park offers RV travelers an exceptional outdoor destination that perfectly balances natural beauty with recreational opportunity. This public campground sits at the heart of one of the Pacific Northwest's most picturesque river valleys, where forested hillsides meet pristine waterways and the landscape invites exploration at every turn.

The park's primary draw is its direct river access, making it an absolute paradise for fishing enthusiasts. The Skagit River is renowned as one of the premier steelhead fishing destinations in North America, attracting anglers from across the region during peak seasons. Whether you're an experienced fly fisher or looking to try your hand at river fishing for the first time, the waters here offer excellent opportunities to land trophy-sized steelhead and salmon. The park's location puts you right where the action is, eliminating long drives to fishing spots and allowing you to maximize your time on the water.

Beyond fishing, the area surrounding Rockport is brimming with natural attractions and outdoor activities. The Cascades are nearby, offering hiking trails for all skill levels, from gentle riverside walks to more challenging mountain adventures. Birdwatchers flock to this region, particularly during migration seasons, as the river corridor serves as a vital habitat corridor for numerous species. Wildlife viewing is exceptional throughout the year, with opportunities to spot bald eagles, osprey, deer, and other native fauna in their natural setting.

The small town of Rockport itself maintains that authentic small-town charm that many RV travelers seek. Local restaurants and shops provide easy access to supplies and dining without the overwhelming feel of larger commercial areas. The community has a genuine, welcoming character that makes visitors feel like part of the neighborhood rather than just passing through.

This campground appeals especially to fishing-focused RV travelers, nature photographers, outdoor enthusiasts, and families looking for a peaceful riverside retreat. The combination of world-class fishing, stunning natural scenery, and convenient river access makes Howard Miller Steelhead Park a destination that keeps visitors returning year after year.

We enjoyed this little park. The camping was very nice. The sites are close but the angles mean you don't see much of your neighbors. Would be 5 stars if the had full hook ups but only have water and electric, no sewer but there is a dump station on the way out for $5. Feels like a dump should be included with your stay. The grounds were very clean as were the baths that had codes to use, so no day users. Rich and Karen the camp hosts were great and checked us in quickly. The site was clean and ready. Very dog friendly and long as your dog is on a leash and even had bags so you can be a responsible dog owner and pick up after your pet. They were also child friendly as long as your child was under your control and not running around the park. There is a little trail there you can walk along the river and fishing was on fire even with a dry fly in July. Most site were shaded or had some shade with a tree but check if you want shade or not and book a good site for your needs. There is a bar and grill across the street that is great to grab breakfast and dinner to take with you if going into the national park and doing some adventures, we did several hikes and had dinner at the visitors center by ourselves. Over all a nice week of adventures. If this was helpful or you are still reading this review give us a like. We came thru here 2 yrs ago and planned to come back with our travel trailer. We were not disappointed at all. Other campers are friendly. Camp host are awesome. It's very difficult to just drive in and get a spot. We reserved 9 months ago for river front spots. It's well worth the effort to stay here. We will return in the future.

We usually don't stay in RV parks because we have a smaller rig and prefer more rustic campgrounds. We stayed at Howard Miller because friends had reservations there and asked us to join them. That said, this was an exceptionally clean, well run facility. The sites were level, the trash was emptied, the bathrooms were clean. They also upgraded us when we checked availability of better sites a week... We usually don't stay in RV parks because we have a smaller rig and prefer more rustic campgrounds. I highly recommend if you have a bigger rig, need electrical hookups in the area, or if RV parks are your jam.
