I went in late august and it was very comfortable with no bugs.

The road up was full of black ice. People need to recognize this before it's too late. It's not just shiny black asphalt. Beautiful lake! Was the first stop on a two day hike for me. The view from the ridge was just awesome. Pretty clear weather, the few clouds hanging around just added to the epic nature and atmosphere. I met some really friendly goats. There are plans to relocate them so check them out while they are still in the area. When I did my loop there was some primitive trail that was eroded on steep slope very badly and quite dangerous.

The lake is beautiful and worth the hike. Good amount of camping spots with different levels of privacy. No restrooms or running water, but there was some cell phone service as it's close to Port Angeles. Lots of mosquitoes
