About Lake Viviane Backcountry Camping

Campground in Washington.

Lake Viviane Backcountry Camping offers a genuine escape into Washington's pristine wilderness, where rugged natural beauty meets accessible outdoor recreation. Nestled in one of the Pacific Northwest's most scenic regions, this public campground serves as an ideal basecamp for travelers seeking authentic backcountry experiences without sacrificing basic comfort and convenience.

The surrounding landscape showcases the dramatic character that makes Washington such a compelling destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Towering evergreen forests frame sparkling alpine waters, while the terrain transitions from dense woodland to open vistas that reward exploration. The location provides an excellent opportunity to experience the region's natural rhythms, from early morning wildlife activity to spectacular sunset viewing over the lake itself.

For those planning their visit, Lake Viviane Backcountry Camping sits strategically positioned for accessing some of the area's most rewarding hiking and outdoor pursuits. The immediate vicinity offers numerous trail options ranging from gentle shoreline walks to more challenging backcountry routes. Anglers find the lake itself appealing, with opportunities to test their skills in cold, clear waters known for decent fish populations. Water enthusiasts appreciate both the scenic beauty and recreational potential that the lake environment provides throughout the camping season.

The campground draws a diverse crowd of visitors. Families with children enjoy the relatively contained setting that balances nature immersion with manageable logistics. Serious hikers and backpackers use the location as a jumping-off point for longer wilderness adventures. Photography enthusiasts find endless inspiration in the interplay of light, water, and mountain landscapes. Solo travelers and couples seeking peaceful getaways appreciate the quieter pace and natural surroundings that encourage genuine disconnection from daily routines.

Seasonal considerations matter when planning your visit. Spring and early summer bring emerging wildlife and wildflower displays, while fall offers cooler temperatures and spectacular foliage. Summer provides the most comfortable camping conditions, though popularity increases accordingly. Winter access depends on weather conditions and road maintenance, so checking current conditions before traveling during colder months is essential.

The broader region supports extended stays for those wanting to thoroughly explore Washington's backcountry character. Nearby communities offer supply options and services, allowing visitors to stock up on provisions while maintaining access to genuine wilderness experiences. This balance between accessibility and authentic natural immersion defines much of what makes the area special.

We recently stayed at Camp Lakeview, and overall it was a mixed experience. On the positive side, all the staff members were very friendly and welcoming. The access to the lake is absolutely beautiful and was one of the highlights of our stay. The grounds are well maintained and nicely set up, and we even enjoyed watching a little bunny hopping around the property, which was very sweet. Another big plus is that there’s a small shop on site where you can buy essentials — even ice — which is very convenient when you’re camping. However, there were also some downsides that made our stay less comfortable. The three biggest issues were: 1. Campsites too close together – The sites are located very close to each other, with almost no privacy. I could literally hear strangers snoring in the tent right next to ours. Pets from neighboring sites often wandered into our area. While they were adorable (I even posted a photo of a very cute little dog that came over), a couple of times they urinated on our rug. It would be great if there were clearer rules or boundaries regarding pets, and if the sites were spaced further apart to give guests a bit of personal space. 2. Restrooms and showers – While I really appreciate that you provide toilet seat covers (big respect for that!), the stalls are extremely narrow. I’m a slim person myself, and even for me they felt very tight — I can’t imagine how uncomfortable this would be for larger guests. In addition, the facilities were not clean. During our three-day stay, I never once saw the bathrooms properly cleaned. The floors were dirty, paper towels ran out by Friday evening and weren’t replaced until I asked on Saturday night, and the sanitary bins in the women’s restroom were overflowing the entire time. There were staff members who seemed to “check in” and create the impression of cleaning, but the actual state of the bathrooms and showers remained quite poor. 3. Shower water – Taking a shower was also a challenge. The water temperature was not adjustable, and in the evenings it was always very cold. This made it hard to properly shower and was a big drawback for us after long, hot days outdoors. In conclusion, while we enjoyed the lake access, the friendly staff, the convenience of the shop, and the overall atmosphere, the lack of privacy between campsites, the state of the restrooms, and the cold showers are major issues. These factors significantly lowered our experience and rating.

I love it at Camp Lakeview! Been coming out for years starting at age 14. Campground is close by and management and staff cares about customer service. They have fixed up the cabins and installed a new dock for swimming. The bathrooms are always clean. It’s the best kept secret in the Puyallup Graham area. Thanks to the staff that try to make each experience a memorable one.

Returning deposits should be a simple process if guests respect the property. Unfortunately, this shows poor management and lack of professionalism. I am giving 2 stars only because of this issue. The place itself is beautiful and the stay was excellent. It would have been 5 stars if everything had been organized properly and the deposit had been returned on time.

We’re to start. Well pulling into the camp grounds was amazing. We got there a little later than we would have liked, but we had an out standing welcoming. I went into the office and was greeted by a very professional front desk employee. He was very polite. I asked Jason if there may be another secluded area so no one would get up set. He took his time to walk us over to a different section behind some RVS and explained the different spots. He suggested the little bit more open area as we had a toddler as well and that our area extended to the fence line. I was supper happy with this spot and after making the choice we went back to the office were Jason switched our spots over. We also loved the new swim dock. It was absolutely incredible and beautiful. I know there are mixed reviews on here but from our families experience with this camp, we will absolutely be returning in the spring with our family and hoping we get the same customer service again. 10/10
