We got there about 8:15 this morning (Saturday during the summer) and the lot was full. Parking just outside was no big deal. You need a NW Forest Pass, which you can get here if you don't already have one. The Granite Peak hike is awesome! You get above treeline, there's a beautiful alpine meadow, and the views from the peak are amazing.

Beautiful hike to the lake. There’s bathroom at the beginning of the trail and onsite. Really recommend it

beginning of the trailhead actually has ice for the for 100ft or so, so be careful. There's then a patch of dry trail, but very quickly you'll encounter packed snow all the way up to the Pratt junction. I didn't need to use spikes or snowshoes until then, but there were some sketchy crossings that might make you want to spike up anyway. After the Pratt junction, you will absolutely need snowshoes. Snow can be 1.5-3 feet. For me, it was very difficult to find the trail as nobody had been out there in a long time. I lost track of the trail multiple times and had to backtrack a few times. I kinda improvised my way down the side of the mountain. It was a shorter path and I felt just as safe. Anyway, be sure you're comfortable pathfinding. The way back was pretty intense. Heart rate got up to 192 with my pup pushing me to finish. Overall, pretty fun and long. The lake is frozen. Took me about 6 hours. Required: Snowshoes, poles Recommend: spikes
