A Favorite Family Camping Spot by the Ocean Our family loved camping at South Beach Campground! It quickly became one of our favorite places to camp—mostly because of its unbeatable proximity to the beach. There’s nothing quite like falling asleep to the sound of crashing waves and waking up to stunning ocean views just steps from your site. We especially enjoyed sitting at our campsite watching... It quickly became one of our favorite places to camp—mostly because of its unbeatable proximity to the beach. There’s nothing quite like falling asleep to the sound of crashing waves and waking up to stunning ocean views just steps from your site. We especially enjoyed sitting at our campsite watching sea otters playfully swim by and pods of porpoises glide through the surf. It felt like we had a front-row seat to the wonders of the Pacific Ocean. That said, expectations are everything. This campground is basically a large, open parking lot on the edge of a bluff overlooking the water. There are no hookups, and little to no privacy between sites. There is a set of flush toilets, but they can be smelly, and there are no sinks or running water available for campers. We had to drive several miles up the road to another campground to fill our water containers—so come prepared. All sites are first-come, first-served and often fill up quickly, especially in the summer. But if you’re looking for a rugged, no-frills, oceanfront camping experience with incredible wildlife and views, South Beach is hard to beat. We’ll definitely be back!

Originally I thought about parking in line with everyone else parallel to the ocean. But you have a bit of dead grass and fire pit and table on one side,and dirt road on the other. We had two small dogs with us, so we moved to a spot behind the restroom. It... It's a good spot to camp while exploring the area.
