The beach is quite rocky — can be an ankle breaker if you’re not careful — but the hidden waterfall was absolutely magical and worth the visit. I absolutely loved it. The only sad part was seeing lots of carvings on the rocks, which takes away from the natural beauty. Please leave no trace and help keep this place pristine.

most of the beach is rocky so don’t forget you rock choose. Hike is minor so feel free to gear up for luxury camp, I have witnessed groups with projector & sleeping bags etc. I recommend heading south ( left direction when u reach beach ) and camp closer to the hidden waterfalls so you can swim in the ocean then shower there. Sombrio beach - Hidden gem for sure. Stunning scenery, even on an overcast day. Plenty of parking and a gorgeous walk through silent forest to get to the pebble beach though it's 20 mins or so all downhill so beware of the same back up. Wear good shoes. Even the beach is tricky walking. Worth it though 😀

By far one of the nicest places to camp on Vancouver Island. Many parts of the beach are rocky but the views and campsites are spectacular! Gorgeous stars at night when it's clear. East Sombrio is a lot quieter than West but it's a short trek to get to it so I can see why. Bear caches and porta-potties available. If you're camping overnight make sure you've got a water filter or are boiling water... By far one of the nicest places to camp on Vancouver Island. If you're camping overnight make sure you've got a water filter or are boiling water from creeks. Also *IMPORTANT* pitch your tent as far from the water as possible. The tide gets extremely high at night and your tent needs to be close to the trail wall or else you'll get soaked. There's also a gorgeous hidden waterfall nearby (marked on Google maps) that is a must-see. Overall, highly recommend this beach but consider going during the week to avoid crowds.
